The success ofThe Last Of Usand the box office-busting numbers ofThe Super Mario Bros. Moviehas got everyone talking about video game adaptations again. Those are bigger examples than usual, but video game shows and movies have been hitting more than they’ve been missing for a few years. That includes the most recentMortal Kombatmovie, and if there’s going to be a sequel,WWESuperstar Cody Rhodes may well want in.

WrestleMania went down in Hollywood earlier this month. An event so big that WWE Superstars effectively call the host city home for a full week. It seems Rhodes didn’t use all of that time to wrestle. According toFightful Select(via411Mania), The American Nightmare met with Hollywood executives in an attempt to jumpstart his movie career, and one of those meetings revolved around Rhodes potentially being cast in the role of Johnny Cage.

Notable in his absence from the last Mortal Kombat movie, fans of the fighting series have been discussing who might play him should Cage show up in a potential sequel ever since. Interestingly, Rhodes may face stiff competition from another WWE Superstar if he wants the role. Shortly after the newest movie was released,The Miz made his public pitch to Ed Boonon Twitter, and Boon appeared to approve. The former WWE Championthen followed up a year later, so it’s clearly a project that’s on his mind.

Although Miz and Rhodes have different looks, it’s probably fair to say they would both suit the role of Cage. Casting a wrestler as a character who mostly has to fight also makes a lot of sense. As for which of the two would be better suited to play Cage, while The Miz has more acting experience, Rhodes is the bigger name right now having just headlined WrestleMania.

While a Mortal Kombat sequel seems to almost definitely be on the cards, the reports surrounding Rhodes' Hollywood meetings also made mention of a Zelda project. There has been no hint thatNintendoplans on adaptingThe Legend of Zeldainto a movie, but if that’s where it’s going next following the success of its Mario adaptation, Rhodes would definitely want to be a part of it. The American Nightmare was the one who gotStone Cold Steve Austin to admit he’s a Breath of the Wild fan, althoughThe Texas Rattlesnake recently admitted that was a lie.

Boon andNetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat focus is largely on MK12 right now. While still not officially revealed, its creator has been upping the frequency of his teases. They all come after a Warner Bros. Discovery exec confirmedthe next game in the series is on track to launch in 2023.
