Who Was Louisoix Leveilleur?
Louisoix Leveilleur was arenowned Sharalyan researcher. As an Elezen, Louisoix was tall and had pointed ears, most often appearing in a white tunic and armored leggings. His weapon of choice, a staff called theTupsimati, bore the mark of Thaliak, the Scholar, one of the Twelve gods of Eorzean faith. Like other Sharlayans promoted to Archon status, he has theArchon tattooon his neck.
When he lived, Louisoix was most well known as being theleader and founder of the Circle of Knowing, a small group of twelve Sharlayan scholars that are deeply involved inanything related to Primals. He founded this group in order toprevent the prophecy of the Seventh Umbral Calamity.

Later, after his death, Louisoix became a legendary figure in Eorzea thanks to his sacrifice in defeating Bahamut.
The Circle Of Knowing
As mentioned above, the Circle of Knowing was agroup of Sharlayan scholars that focused their research on the Primals, often taking to the field to fight them off or prevent their summoning. This was highly unusual for Sharlayans given their stance of neutrality, and so the members of the Circle traveled to the main continent of Eorzea, away from Sharlayan.
The group’s most prominent members are listed below.
The Circle of Knowing later become theScions of the Seventh Dawnunder the leadership of Minfilia Warde, after the events of the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Around this time is when the Warrior of Light joins the Scions. Their goal remains the same as the Circle of Knowing, to study and subdue Primals wherever and whenever necessary.
Louisoix’s Relatives
For A Realm Reborn and beyond players, Louisoix Leveilleur is most well known as the father ofFourchenault Leveilleur, and the grandfather ofAlphinaud and Alisaie Leveilleur. Fourchenault plays a significant role in the story of Endwalker, while Alphinaud and Alisaie are the main characters throughout the story of Final Fantasy 14, joining the Warrior of Light on the majority of their adventures.
Louisoix Leveilleur During The Seventh Umbral Calamity
Perhaps one of the most well-known events of Final Fantasy 14, before A Realm Reborn, was theBattle of Carteneauand theSeventh Umbral Calamity. By forming the Circle of Knowing, Louisoix’s original plan was toprevent this event from happening. He instructed the members of the Circle to placestones around Eorzea with the marks of the Twelve, hoping to eventually use this power to prevent the Calamity.
As the red moon Dalamud fell over Carteneau, Louisoix attempted to use the stones to summon the power of the Twelve to reseal Bahamut in the moon, but wasunable to do so. Instead of summoning the power of the Twelve, hemanifested the hopes and wishes of the people of Eorzea, much like what occurs when Beast Tribes summon their Primals, and become thesymbol of rebirth, the Primal Phoenix.

This power quickly faded, but Louisoix was able toteleport the members of the Circle away from danger. Then, with his remaining power, Louisoix successfully beat back Bahamut’s attacks anddefeated the Primal, piercing through its chest in a burst of light.
However, Bahamut’s immense power prevented him from being truly defeated. Due to the overwhelming power of the Primal,Louisoix was enthralled in his death, becoming aservant of Bahamut.

Louisoix Leveilleur In A Realm Reborn
Later, when the Warrior of Light and Alisaie explore thefragment of Dalamudthat was rumored to hold Bahamut, Louisoix appears before the adventurers, warning them to stop before they too become enthralled. He appears later, under the control of Bahamut, andtransforms into Phoenix, barring Warrior of Light, Alisaie, and Alphinaud from proceeding. By defeating Phoenix, the party was able to finallyset Louisoix free from Bahamut’s command, giving peace of mind to Alisaie, and imparting his desires for the twins to look out for one another.
Due to the nature of Primals,Louisoix is not truly dead, but insteadtransformed into the Primal known as Phoenix. During these scenes, Louisoix swears the Warrior of Light and the twins to secrecy, making them promise tonever reveal the truth about the Phoenix.

If large groups of people ever become knowledgeable of this, and with the necessary supply of crystals, it would bepossible for Phoenix to be summoned once again. In fact, Summoners cansummon Phoenix as part of their abilities, but this is aDemi-versionof the Primal, and thus not the true, transformed soul of Louisoix.
Because only the Warrior of Light, Alphinaud, and Alisaie know about the truth of Phoenix, it isunlikely that Louisoix will ever returnin this way.
