There are plenty of NPCs to meet inNo Man’s Skyand none of them are quite like Nada and Polo. This time-traveling twosome is known to every Traveller and they’re always willing to help out from within their massive multiverse hopping machine.

They provide a unique currency known as Quicksilver, a haven to socialize in for a while, and a place to pick up work or sell your wares. Their leviathan-sized lair is optional and only accessible after going through a separate questline, and they have a sizeable bit of lore that can be easily missed if you’re powering through the story.

Who Is Nada?

First up under the magnifying glass is Nada, or Priest Entity Nada, as he’s more formally known. He is one of thenumerous NPCs on the Anomalyand a member ofthe Korvax.

Like Polo, he’s encounteredas part of the Atlas Path Quest.Unlike other Korvax, Nadarefuses to take part in Korvax Convergence,a process by which a Korvax connects to a nexus and over time fades and is replaced by another Korvax. He was previously exiled for displaying non-Korvax behavior such as independent thought and curiosity.

But because of his experiences in the Anomaly, the Korvax hive mind as a wholehas been trying to reconnect to Nada to add him back to the fold, absorb his information, and thenwipe him from existenceto be replaced with one of their own within the machine. As a result, Nada remainsisolated and unconnected from other Korvaxto prevent this.

Unlike other Korvax, Nadaconsiders The Atlas to be a liarand a machine of life and death, so he’s not exactly fond of his race’s “god” and its unknown machinations either.

Who Is Polo?

Specialist Polo is amember of the Gek speciesand just like Nada, they’rea friendly NPC that resides within the Space Anomaly.Polo’s backstory is told through the quest “The First Traveller”.

Here you learn that Polo worked on an isolated Salvage Stationaspunishment for their previous behavior. After investigating a crashed Freighter, Poloencounters Nada and an interesting series of logs on the ruined ship, and though seemingly insignificant on the outside, what was within the logs would have life-changing consequences for Polo.

After reading the data sheets it was revealed that the Nada recovered from the Freighterwas from an alternate universe where all life was wiped out by The Sentinelsfor seemingly no reason. Nada and his universe’s version of Polofled to the center of the Galaxy to try and escapethem by crossing over into another universe.

Unfortunately, the alternate-universe Polo died during a Sentinel attack, but Nada managed totransition across universes to safetyon a battle-damaged Freighter, eventually being found and rescued by the current Polo.

What Is The Anomaly?

A station that stands outside of time and space as it drifts through the void,The Anomaly is a summonable public player HUBthat appears when you reach"The First Traveller"mission of the Artemis Path questline.

Since it’s the fourth one on the list, it can oftenbe a while before you get to explore this super large social location, considering how long some of the missions can take and how big the galaxy is.

Appearing from the outside as a gigantic floating sphere, the interior isbig enough to house several starships, and it’s also home to numerous vendors and more throughout its depths.

And even thoughoriginallyit was just Nada and Polo aloneon the Anomaly, as the game got more updatesthis area was expanded upon quite substantially.

Though its origins are currently unknown, the station itself isextremely advanced and unfathomably old, able to cross the oceans of time and space with ease, and it’sa summonable haven for any Traveler that wants to stop by.

How They’re All Connected

It’s not immediately clear as you spend your days on the Anomaly, but there’s quite a bit of lore involving Nada, Polo, and the Anomaly going on just behind the scenes. According to various data logs,Nada and Polo werepart of the original set of Universal simulations.

While those simulations number in the millions now, in those early daysentire universes would be deleted, rebuilt, and tweakedover and over again. Though back then it was a quiet and solitary time on the Anomalyas they were the only ones to manage to find this safe space, Nada and Polo had managed to step outside the influence of Atlas.

It’s not clear when exactly the two made their way onto the station, but doing sohas allowed them to remain active outside of the simulation’s constraintsseemingly forever.

Their ability to jump between simulations manifests in the program as them appearing to travel through time and space, and this suits the two perfectlyas they’re both outcasts from their species. Why dwell in one universe where you’re not wanted when there’s a multiverse out there to mess with?

Plus, considering they share no goodwill towards The Atlas, being able to stay outside its reach is beneficial to both, thoughNada would eventually leave the station to rejoin the Korvax Convergence towards the end of the game’s story.

Since the Anomaly is linked to the other universes, there have beenplenty of other creatures, known as Iterations, that were able to make a similar journey. So eventually, it became pretty crowded in the Anomaly as the Travellers began appearing and the entire stationbecame a buzzing hub of activity and merchant-based industry.
