If you think about it, most people inThe Witcher 3wouldn’t be able to recognize the majority of the monsters that Geralt fights. Sure, they might know a drowner from a nekker, but would they really know what any of the rarer monsters look like?

This point is truly hammered home in the side quest “The Most Truest of Basilisks”, where a traveling merchant attempts to show off a captured monster as a basilisk to a crowd of soldiers. The attraction goes as poorly as one would expect, turning the event from a brief distraction to a short quest.

Where To Start The Most Truest Of Basilisks

This quest startsnear Oxenfurt,to the town’s east.Ride across thebridge to the eastuntil you encounter a junction.

The closest fast travel point isNovigrad Gate,on the bridge itself. The quest is just a short distance away.

A merchant puts his hands up, trying to calm an angry soldier down in The Witcher 3.

You will encounter a small gathering of Redanian soldiers around a traveling merchant and a monster in a cage. Walk up to the merchant and talk to him to start a cutscene. Geralt willcomment on the monsterbeing a wyvern, instead of a basilisk.

The soldiers see this mix-up as fraud and demand a refund from the merchant. The resulting commotionstartles the wyvernenough to destroy the cage, allowing it to escape.

Putting The Wyvern Down

Rampaging monsters tend to be incompatible with human life. As the most qualified person in the crowd, it falls to you tokill the wyvern. As Geralt notes, it is bothyoung and malnourished. As a result, this specimen ison the weak side.

Wyvernsare hybrids and are weak to Hybrid Oil.You can try to stun it byusing Aard on itat close range.

It mayattempt to poison you.You can takeGolden Orioleto negate the poison if you are affected by it.

The soldiers will join in the fight, making this encounter much easier than a one-on-one fight would be. The quest will automatically end once the wyvern is slain.
