Some quests inThe Witcher 3can begin suddenly and with little warning. “A Dog’s Life” can pounce on you unexpectedly on the road near Oreton when Geralt encounters a dog being attacked by a pack of wolves. The creatures in question are mundane relative to the usual monsters that Geralt specializes in dealing with but can still kill.

Where To Start A Dog’s Life
The dog can be encountered onOreton’s southeastern road.You will have passed through this town in the questHunting A Witch.Geralt will comment on the wolves attacking it. You will have tointervene and ensure that the dog survives to continue.
If youleave the areaorallow the dog to die,thequest will fail.
The dog willassist you in combatand can hold its own. It is best tokeep as many wolves as possible focused on youwhile the dog fights whichever one it chooses. A cutscene will play once the wolves are defeated, where Geralt will realize that the dog had run away from home.
Following The Dog
At this point, you will have tofollow the dogas it leads you back to its home, where you will encounterthree bandits outside the house.
Make sure to follow closely and avoid wandering away. Thequest will fail if you get too far away.

Geralt will decide toinvestigate the areaonce the bandits have been killed. Enter the house and use your Witcher Senses tofind a floorboardon the right side of the house. You will also see a dead woman, presumably the dog’s owner.
Interact with it toopen the floorboards and find a chestthat you will have to loot toend the quest.Geralt will leave the house and note that the dog is missing.
