Romance movies aren’t for everyone. Most of the time, they’re cheesy, over the top, and cliché. But, at the same time, many of you probably love a cheesy romance movie from time to time, even if you’d never admit that to anyone else.

The same can be said for these video game villains. When they’re not trying to take over the world or destroy it, who says they wouldn’t enjoy a feel-good, lovey-dovey movie to see out the evening? Everyone needs a little downtime, after all. These villains might not show it, but they have a weakness for true love.
8Bowser (Super Mario)
Look — in just about every game he’s in, Bowser’s main objective is to marry Princess Peach. He may not go about it the right way (ever heard of asking Peach whether she wants to marryyou, Bowser?), but he’s still clearly a romantic at heart.
But,as the King Koopa, he’s got to keep up appearances and look all-mighty powerful for his people. So, he’d watch his favorite romance movies in secret, dreaming of enacting those scenarios with his true love.

7Magus (Chrono Trigger)
Before becoming the broody dark mage you know him as inChrono Trigger, Magus was a young prince named Janus. He was a sweet boy (besides, you know, telling your party that one of you will perish) who cared a lot for his sister and cat. Even these many years later, perhaps the softer side of his childhood personality remains.
When he’s not turning innocent people into frogs, he might spend an evening holed up in his castle, watching a romance movie full to the brim with clichés. You don’t live in an over-the-top gothic castle like that if you don’t have a flair for the dramatics every now and then.

Pyramid Head gives me the impression of someone working a 9-5. Sorting out James Sunderland inSilent Hill2 isn’t his lifelong passion, but someone’s got to do the job.

At the end of a long day, the guy’s got to unwind. And how does it go about that? By watching a cheesy romance movie. It’s the perfect way to wash off all the grime of just wandering around Silent Hill and dealing with the even grimier James.
5Ghirahim (The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword)
Regularly antagonising Link throughoutSkyward Sword, Ghirahim is one ofThe Legend of Zeldaseries’ more dramatic villains. He’s perhaps most well-known for the… strange dance he performs when using Zelda in a ritual to bring back Demise.
As we already know he has a taste for dramatics, it’s not a huge leap to conclude that he also enjoys a romantic movie or two. He likely adores confessions of undying love and tragic, star-crossed lovers — the more theatrical and over-the-top the better.

4Shadow The Hedgehog (Sonic The Hedgehog)
An icon for goths and emos everywhere, Shadow the Hedgehog is known to be a bit of a loner, especially in contrast toSonic, who’s always surrounded by friends. Though he’s the epitome of a brooding and dark alter ego, he’s sometimes known to have a vulnerable side — one I know that has to have a weak spot for romance.
Of course, he would never let anyone in on the fact that he likes to escape into a romance movie from time to time. He has a reputation as lord of the emos to upkeep.

3Beatrix (Final Fantasy 9)
When you first meet Beatrix inFinal Fantasy 9, she appears as a stalwart general as the leader of the Alexandria kingdom’s army. Not only is she so tough that she’s literally unbeatable as a boss, but that strength extends to her characterisation too.

It’s not until Beatrix meets the loyal, if bumbling, knight Steiner that her walls start to come down. The two practically ride off into the sunset with each other by the game’s end, so you just know she secretly enjoys the cheesiest of cheesy romance when it’s her turn to pick the movie on movie night.
2Lady Dimitrescu (Resident Evil Village)
Everyone fell in love with Lady Dimitrescu as soon as they saw her inResident Evil Village— and who could blame them? She could certainly star as the charming (and deadly) lover in a romance movie, but in her free time, perhaps she likes to relax and watch them too.
She’s got to have a cinema room somewhere in that big castle of hers, complete with a popcorn machine and the comfiest seats you’ve ever sat in. When she’s not looming over everyone who comes close to Castle Dimitrescu, she’s enjoying one of life’s simple pleasures: a romance movie with more cheese than a cheese board.

1Guzma (Pokemon Sun And Moon)
The leader of Team Skull, Guzma is one of the goofier villains inPokemonhistory. He loves Bug-type Pokemon, and has a particular fondness for his partner Pokemon, Golisopod. On his days off from snatching Buginium Z from across Alola, he just might enjoy a romance movie, as a treat.
Of course, he has his tough guy reputation as Team Skull’s fiercest trainer and leader to uphold, so he could never let his grunts know of his passion for love. He’d watch them at his place in Po Town with the volume down low and his Golisopod nearby, hoping the grunts don’t catch him with his guilty pleasure.
