The British Academy of Film And Television Arts (BAFTAs) has hosted its annual game award ceremony today, with several of 2022’s heavy hitters up for numerous awards in a variety of categories. However, it was the year’s indie hit that managed to take the grand prize, asVampire Survivorshas fended off the likes ofGod of War RagnarokandElden Ringto take home the award for Best Game.Vampire Survivors was arguably one of the biggest and most popular games of 2022, despite its looks and relatively simple gameplay loop. While overshadowed by the bigger titles of the year, the developers still managed to come away with dozens of awards for their efforts. Alongside awards for Animation, Audio Achievement, and Music, Kratos actor Christopher Judge also managed to pick up his second high-profile award for Perfomer in a Leading Role following his win at The Game Awards last year. Angrboda actress - Layla DeLeon Hayes - won the award for Performer in a Supporting Role, while the title also won the EE Game of the Year, voted on by fans, to round off the night for the title.
Elden Ring also received a couple of awards, those being for Multiplayer and Original Property, while indie hit Tunic also managed to snag a couple for Artistic Achievement and Debut Game. Other high profile wins includedFinal Fantasy 14for Evolving Game,Kirby and the Forgotten Landfor the best family game, andHorizon Forbidden Westwhich nabbed a BAFTA for Technical Achievement.
