Update 18:04 BST 17/05/23: It looks like Boon’s tease was right! The official Mortal Kombat Twitter has posted a new teaser saying, “Tomorrow is a new dawn”, and showing a video of a broken clock. The teaser then says that “It is time” and to return tomorrow at 6am PT/ 2pm GMT.
Mortal Kombat 1was leaked in anearnings callby Warner Bros. back in February, and since then, an unending stream of rumours about an official reveal has flooded the community. For months, many have read into creator Ed Boon’s tweets as teases for news, while an anniversary celebration ended on agrain of sandfrom the hourglass, followed bya clock skipping 12. We’re piecing together literal crumbs.
However, a new Boon tweet looks to hold more weight than others, as he simply posted, “THIS WEEK SHOULD BE FUN”. Fans quickly got their hopes up for that long-awaited official reveal, whether it’s Mortal Kombat 12 orthe leaked MK1.

Someone in the comments pointed out that the way Boon tweeted formed the shape of an ‘L’, which he responded to with, “Please don’t krack the kode. That would be a Kitana Krime.” Some read that as Kitana confirmed, while others believe the ‘L’ to be the hands of a clock. Whatever the case, MK fans are in a frenzy trying to figure it all out.
We don’t know much about Mortal Kombat 1 other than it’s supposedly coming this year. When exactly isn’t clear. Based on leaks and teasers, it appears to be another reboot, perhaps in Fire God Liu Kang’s universe created at the end of MK11. Since we know so little, we obviously don’t know what the roster will look like, but guest characters have been leaking.
Homelander, Peacemaker, andConan the Barbarianare all supposedly coming in post-launch Kombat Packs if the leaks are to be believed. The series is no stranger to comic characters so this wouldn’t be a first, as we saw both Spawn and Joker as guest characters in MK11. Peacemaker is also under the Warner Bros. umbrella being a DC character, so there’s credence to these claims.
Maybe we’ll find out more about the roster this week - we’ll have to wait and see. Ed Boon’s tweet does line up with an insider claim from last month, interestingly, as Windows Central reporter and insider Jez Corden alleged that we’d begetting news in May. Here we are, now finally in May, and Boon is teasing something fun happening this week. It all lines up.
Whether this ‘news’ will be a full reveal, a CGI trailer, or something else entirely isn’t clear just yet. But we’re already halfway through the week, so the wait shouldn’t be too long to find out.
