The Last of Us is an IP that has received nothing but adoration from the get go. Right from the first game, to the Left Behind DLC, to Part 2, the HBO series, and then the Part 1 remake, fans have showered praise on the Naughty Dog property no matter its format. So, it’s pretty strange that thePC port for The Last of Us Part 1 is getting trashed.
This isn’t for no reason though – the PC port has been having severe issues with bugs, crashes, and weird visuals. In fact, the visuals are so off-putting at times that ‘Steam Deck Joel’ has even become a meme. Despite Naughty Dog’s efforts, the issues aren’t entirely fixed as of yet, so some fans decided to take matters into their own hands. If you head on over to Nexus Mods, you’ll find a number of mods to improve the game’s performance and other issues.

Of course, these mods aren’t 100 percent fixes, but the comments section suggests that at least some of them have improved performance, if not entirely fixed it. Some of the modsclaim to be able to fix crashing issues, while others say theyimprove the performance. The results seem to be mixed, depending on the PC specs. And even then, there’s a lot of tweaking to be done.
you’re able to try your luck with these mods, but don’t get your hopes up. Sooner or later, Naughty Dog is bound to fix the issues with the port. The developer came out andapologised for the condition of the Part 1 PC Portas well.
“We know some of you have not experienced the Naughty Dog quality you expected,” said a Tweet by Naughty Dog. “Our team is working hard to resolve issues currently preventing some of you from experiencing the game to ensure it reaches the quality level you expect and deserve.”
The devs haveput out a hotfixto address the number of issues with the port, but it appears that the game will need a few more before it starts performing as intended. Until then, however, The Last Of Us Part 1 has officially beendeemed “unsupported” on the Steam Deck. “While we know many of you would like to play The Last of Us Part 1 on Steam Deck, we are prioritising fixes and patches before submitting it for verification,” said Naughty Dog.
On a lighter note, among the many nominations at the MTV Movie Awards for The Last of Us was the Best Kiss category. You may think it was the kiss between Bill and Frank, or Ellie and Riley. But, weirdly, the kiss that was nominated wasbetween Tess and the Infectedin the scene where she dies.
