There have already been a number of moments we will look back on in the first season of HBO’sThe Last Of Usadaptation and likely remember for years to come. Our first look at a live-action Bloater will definitely be one of them, but as explained by the man behind the monster, some of the attention he’s received has come as a surprise.
Adam Basil was the actor inside the Bloater costume, and he recently toldEntertainment Weeklyhow some people have been reacting to his first, and so far only, appearance as the formidable enemy. “He’s captured a lot of people’s imaginations. Someone asked me if I’d come to their wedding. I’ve had people sending me love messages,” Basil revealed, adding that he thinks the Bloater has somehow become “a bit of a sex icon”.

“He really brought out something in people that I don’t think even they knew they had. He’s the big daddy mushroom.” Whether the Bloater appears again in season one or not, hearing it described as the big daddy mushroom is something that will continue to haunt me for a while. As for those of you who are attracted to the Bloater, each to their own, but did you not see it tear off a guy’s head?
Before hearing it has become a sex icon, the most surprising information about The Last Of Us’s Bloater was that it was a guy in a costume, not created using visual effects.The remarkable costume weighed an eye-watering 40 kilos- that’s a lot of fungi.
