The worlds ofFinal Fantasy 7andAnimal Crossingcouldn’t be more different from each other; however, some of the games’ characters have surprising similarities, making it easy to draw comparisons between them. While the villagers in your town or on your island aren’t on a grand mission to save the planet, their personalities, designs, and hobbies often align with Final Fantasy 7’s characters.

Of course, Final Fantasy 7 has a lot more character depth than Animal Crossing, but it’s entertaining to imagine an animal version of Cloud or Tifa walking around on your island. They need a break from working as Avalanche, after all.

8Using Power For Good: Tifa Lockhart - Mira

A match made in Seventh Heaven, Tifa Lockhart and Mira are two characters that have a lot in common. Tifa usesmartial arts techniquesto help Avalanche protect the planet, and Mira is a superhero villager whose fitness hobby likewise allows her to fight any villains she might come across.

Mira’s photo has the quote “Always help a friend in need” inscribed on it, which is a motto that Tifa also lives by, as she sticks by Cloud no matter what. As a Sisterly villager, Mira is someone who can be relied on and acts as an older sibling figure, much like how Tifa is to Marlene.

7Softie Underneath: Barret Wallace - Apollo

The leader of Avalanche, Barret Wallace despises Shinra and wants nothing more than to destroy them to keep the planet safe. Apollo doesn’t have such important responsibilities; however, similar to Barret, Apollo’s Cranky personality can cause him to be misjudged by others.

When Barret isn’t at the forefront of Avalanche’s missions,he’s a doting father to Marleneand supports his team. Apollo, similarly, is a tough nut to crack, but befriending him is worthwhile. Once you get past the grumpy exterior, Apollo and Barret are some of the nicest guys you’ll meet.

6Be Careful Who You Can Trust: Cait Sith - Redd

Cait Sith and Redd both appear to be innocuous when you first meet them, but as it turns out, they’re completely untrustworthy. Cait Sith is a spy controlled by Reeve Tuesti from Shinra, and Redd sells counterfeit and, somehow, authentic famous paintings and sculptures.

Both characters also haveconnections to mythology. Cait Sith references the similarly named Cat-sith from Celtic folklore, a black cat with a white spot on its chest known to steal souls, and Redd is inspired by the kitsune, foxes in Japanese folklore that trick and steal from people. These tricksy animals surprisingly have a lot of shared traits despite how different they might seem.

5Workout Buddies: Zack Fair - Kid Cat

Zack Fair is a First Class Soldier who has a cheerful personality and stays positive no matter the situation - he’s alwaysstriving to become a hero. Similar to Zack, Kid Cat is lively and enthusiastic about being a superhero and taking on bad guys, with his photo even saying “Crime doesn’t pay!”

Kid Cat is a Jock villager with a fitness hobby, meaning that he’s constantly searching for a workout partner and bragging about doing thousands of push-ups. Zack is also known for his habit of performing squats and was even known as “champion of squats” - perhaps Kid Cat could challenge him for this title.

4Spooky Friends: Vincent Valentine - Lucky

When you encounter Vincent Valentine, he’s sleeping in a coffin in the basement of Shinra’s mansion. Lucky has similar interior design philosophies inNew Horizons, decorating his house with three gravestones and skeletal ornaments, so Vincent would feel right at home there.

Vincent also has the ability to transform into monstrous beings - Death Gigas, a transformationresembling Frankenstein’s monster, has a bandaged head, just like how Lucky is covered in bandages. The two have spooky appearances, unlike most other characters in their respective games - a quality that they could bond over.

3Sneaky Thieves: Yuffie Kisaragi - Snake

While he’s most known for referencing Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series, Snake’s ninja-like appearance is similar to Yuffie Kisaragi, a character who uses her skills in thievery to steal Materia.

Snake’s photo says, “A good ninja is neither seen, nor heard,” which Yuffie must also abide by, considering that she can steal from you in Final Fantasy 7. Yuffie and Snake both have energetic personalities, especially when it comes to using their ninja abilities. If Yuffie and Snake were ever to team up, they’d be a force to be reckoned with.

2Flower Girls: Aerith Gainsborough - June

Aerith Gainsborough is a kind-hearted flower seller with a strong connection to the planet and nature in general thanks to her Cetra lineage. Although June doesn’t have any magical abilities, she also has an affinity for nature and flowers. She always wears a hibiscus flower in her hair and a matching hibiscus muumuu in New Horizons.

June also has the nature hobby in New Horizons, which perfectly matches Aerith’s love for the planet. Combine this with her Normal personality that makes her sweet and friendly, characteristics shared with Aerith, and they make the perfect pair.

1Sulky Expression: Cloud Strife - Marshal

You might not think that Cloud Strife and Marshal have much in common, considering Cloud is a mercenary and Marshal is a squirrel who lives carefree in your town or on your island. However, if Cloud ever had a villager designed after him, it would most likely resemble Marshal.

They both have similar furrowed expressions, blond bangs, and green tints in their eyes - although Marshal’s green eyes don’t come with the benefits of Mako. Cloud and Marshal also have similar personalities, as they’re both prideful of their achievements. Cloud won’t hesitate to tell you about his “position” as a First Class Soldier, and Marshal is likewise boastful about his various artistic feats. Regardless of the fronts they put on, they’re both kind when you get to know them.
