Destiny 2: Lightfallallows Guardians to tap into the power of Strand, a paracasual energy that binds the universe. Once you master this Darkness subclass, you’ll be able to grapple across massive distances, keep enemies suspended in the air, or create an army of explosive minions.

But as with all Destiny subclasses, your build heavily relies on Fragments to function. Strand has 14 excellent Fragments for players to use, ranging from utility buffs to powerful ability generation tools. In this list, we’ll be looking at all Strand Fragments and ranking them against one another, showcasing their effectiveness in both PvE and PvP.
Updated June 24, 2025, by Charles Burgar:Strand has received a few balance changes in Season of the Witch, including some tweaks to some of this element’s more popular Fragments. We’ve updated this list with up-to-date information with every Fragment, adjusting rankings to reflect balance changes and sandbox shifts.

Thread of Wisdom:Defeating suspended targets with precision final blows creates an Orb of Power.
Killing a suspended target with a headshot will spawn an Orb of Power, triggering an eight-second cooldown. This isn’t a bad Fragment on its own, but when you compare the other fantastic Strand Fragments to this one, Thread of Wisdom leaves much to be desired. There are so many ways to spawn Orbs of Power that dedicating a Fragment slot for orb generation just isn’t worth it, especially considering the added cooldown period and lack of stat bonuses.

Thread of Transmutation:While you have Woven Mail, weapon final blows create a Tangle. +10 Strength.
This Fragment’s description makes it sound much better than it really is. While you’re affected by Woven Mail, your weapons can spawn Tangles in addition to your Strand abilities. This effect doesnotallow you to spawn a Tangle more than once every 12 seconds. Any weapon can spawn a Tangle while you have Woven Mail, not just Strand weapons.

In essence, using this Fragment grants slightly more flexibility with spawning Tangles. While this can be useful for certain PvP builds, most Strand builds have little issue spawning Tangles as is. Its stat bonus does make Thread of Transmutation an option for certain PvP builds looking to hit triple 100 stats, but this Fragment’s niche isn’t needed in PvE.
Thread of Isolation:Landing rapid precision hits emits a severing blast from the target.

Consecutive precision hits will cause the target to release a wave of Strand energy, reducing the target’s damage output for the next few seconds. This debuff can be fantastic for reducing a boss' damage output in endgame PvE activities, but that’s about the only situation where this Fragment truly shines.

For most PvE content, you can just as easily suspend the target through your class ability or Shackle Grenades. PvP players could get some use out of this if the enemy team roams together, but don’t expect this to trigger often unless you have perfect accuracy. Don’t underestimate this Fragment for GM Nightfalls and Master raids, but most activities aren’t hard enough to warrant using Thread of Isolation.
Thread of Finality:Finisher final blows create Threadlings. +10 Recovery.
Despite stating “Threadlings” in the description, Thread of Finality spawns a single Threadling when you perform a finisher on a red bar PvE enemy. Tougher foes will spawn multiple Threadlings, however, up to three against Champions and similar miniboss targets. The Threadlings behave as all other Strand minions, rushing a target before exploding for moderate damage.
It’s by no means a bad Fragment, but the opportunity cost of using Thread of Finality over other Strand Fragments isn’t worth it for most builds. Since you can’t perform finishers on opposing Guardians, this Fragment’s sole use in PvP is for boosting your Recovery.

Thread of Fury:Damaging targets with a Tangle grants melee energy. -10 Strength.
Hitting an enemy with a Tangle grants roughly ten percent melee energy, affected by how many enemies you hit. That sounds great in theory, yet Thread of Fury doesn’t work if you detonate the Tangle with your weapon. You must throw the Tangle to receive any energy.

While Tangles have lengthy cooldowns, you can get a surprising amount of bonus melee energy from this Fragment. It really starts to shine in Tangle-focused builds, notably any Threadrunner build that’s using the Whirling Maelstrom Aspect. For builds that want to detonate stationary Tangles—mainly Broodweavers and Berserkers—Thread of Fury isn’t worth using.
Thread of Rebirth:Strand weapon final blows have a chance to create a Threadling.

Defeating three enemies or two Guardians with a Strand weapon will spawn a Threadling, seeking out a nearby target before exploding. This is a great way to give your Strand weapons some add-clearing potential in PvE content. For PvP, Thread of Rebirth is solid for applying pressure onto the enemy team and getting easy cleanup kills.
Broodweaver Warlocks will get a ton of use from this Fragment since their Threadlings can perch on their body. As for the other Strand classes, Threadrunners and Berserkers might find Thread of Propagation to be a better choice for enhancing their weapon’s add-clearing potential.

Thread of Evolution:Threadlings travel farther and deal additional damage. +10 Intellect.
Thread of Evolution is mandatory for all Threadling builds. This makes your Threadlings far more reliable, causing them to travel much faster and deal roughly 25 percent more damage. While that damage bonus is certainly nice, the real strength of this Fragment is the enhanced movement speed of your Threadlings.

Faster Threadlings make it easier for them to track targets or, if no enemies are nearby, perch onto you—assuming you’re a Broodweaver. Any Threadling build will want Thread of Evolution equipped. For everyone else, you can safely ignore this Fragment.
Thread of Binding:Super final blows emit a suspending burst from the target. +10 Resilience.

Thread of Binding is a deceptively powerful Fragment. Whenever your Super kills a target, that enemy’s corpse will release a wave of Strand energy that suspends all targets caught in the blast radius. This explosion is comparable to a Shackle Grenade, doesn’t have a cooldown, and lasts eight seconds.
While it’s not particularly useful for the Broodweaver’s Super, this Fragment is incredible for Threadrunners and Berserkers. Both Silkstrike and Bladefurycan stunlock entire hordes of enemies with this single Fragment, countering tough foes like Wyverns and even Champions. If you have room in your build for a spare Fragment, Thread of Binding is a great pick. It also buffs your Resilience, making this a solid pick for PvP as well.
Thread of Propagation:Powered melee final blows grant your Strand weapons Unraveling Rounds. +10 Strength
After you land a melee ability kill, your Strand weapons will gain Unraveling Rounds for the next ten seconds, releasing Unravel projectiles upon damaging foes. The effect itself doesn’t deal much damage, but Unraveling Rounds can greatly improve your Strand weapon’s add-clearing potential once those projectiles infect every target.
A rapid-fire weapon with Unraveling Rounds can deal some serious damage to dense crowds in PvE content. The best part is grapple melees can also trigger this perk, giving your Unraveling Rounds close to permanent uptime with the right build. While a niche choice for PvP, Thread of Propagation is a great choice for all PvE builds that plan to use Strand weapons.
Thread of Continuity:Suspend, Unravel, and Sever effects applied to targets have increased duration.
Most Strand debuffs last 50 percent longer with this Fragment equipped, excluding Suspend sources which only last one second longer. While Sever and Unravel don’t benefit greatly from this Fragment,Suspend is such a powerful CC toolthat extending its duration is nothing short of S-tier, even if the extension is only a second.

Suspend completely disables PvE enemies and makes opposing Guardians much less nimble. Extending that debuff can make it far easier to win tough gunfights where you’re outnumbered. If you’re unsure what to run, Thread of Continuity is always a good pick.
