The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomjust dropped its third and final trailer ahead of next month’s release, providing us with tantalizing clues for the Breath of the Wild sequel. Not only didwe get to see Ganondorf in all his glory, but we also got to see an expanded selection of new items that Link can make using his new fusion ability.
In case you missed last month’s gameplay reveal, Link will be able to take two objects andfuse them together to create entirely new weapons. The examples we saw last month were a little lame (you can’t really make a rock tied to a stick look that impressive), but today’s trailer showed a truly innovative creation: a shield fused with a sword. And not just any sword–a two-handed sword!

You might be wondering just what good tying a sword to a shield can be. In fairness, it seems like you’ve just removed your defensive armament in favor of creating a misshapen club. However, as you seein the trailerbelow, Link can actually use this abomination of a weapon to parry attacks. This provides Link with all the benefits of a shield while maintaining the reach advantage of a two-handed weapon.
That’s not the only new weapon revealed in the trailer. Later on, we see Link riding on horseback with some sort of new arrow readied. It looks like it’ll probably explode, but there’s no way to tell without seeing what ingredients went into making the arrow.
And we also got to see a new vehicle Link can create using the fusion ability. Last month we saw Link make a boat, but in today’s trailer, we see him at the wheel of a giant tank. It’s mostly just a giant stone cube on a wheeled chassis, but you’re able to still see two arms firing on the vehicle’s sides as well as Link steering the monstrosity from the top.
New fusion weapons are all well and good, but they’re nothing without new challenges to wield them. Looks like Tears of the Kingdom will provide those in spades with what fans believewill be traditional Zelda-style dungeons. At one point, we see Link falling (or perhaps gliding using a squirrel suit) down a tunnel lined with lasers, and in another scene, a giant golem comes stalking out from the wall. The thought here is that these underground sections foretell the return of classic dungeons, full of puzzles and traps, although it’s still too soon to say for sure.
