Bethesda just made two bigStarfieldannouncements this morning. The first is the game will launch on Xbox and PC on September 6, and the second is we’ll get to see more gameplay and look behind the scenes with a Starfield Direct presentation on June 11. On top of that, we’ll also get to see what the rest of Xbox Game Studios are up to with a presentation just before the big Starfield reveals.
We’ve known for a while that a Starfield showcase was in the works, with leakers promising an “imminent” presentation that wassupposed to have arrived last week. It seems that Bethesda was “still sorting stuff out” and that led to a slight delay. But today’s trailer confirms Starfield is arriving in September, and we’ll get a good look at how far the game has come with a presentation on June 11.

Today’s trailerappears to reveal some of Starfield’s more important story beats. It looks like ancient ruins on a dusty moon are the remnants of an advanced civilization that can catapult the player to realms unknown. Then Todd Howard appeared with a release date and a “deep dive” promise with Bethesda execs playtesting Starfield in the background.
We know plenty about Starfield’s mechanics already thanks to regular teasers. Starfieldwill see the return of pickpocketing, a standby skill for Bethesda RPGs, and yes, you’re able to plant live grenades in unsuspecting soldiers to blow them up. We knowlanding on unexplored planets won’t be seamless as it is in No Man’s Sky, and we knowyou won’t just take over every political faction in the known galaxylike you could in Skyrim. What you will experienceis exploration on a grand scaleandrandom encountersthat will hopefully feel more organic than Fallout 4.
And it’s not just Starfield that’ll provide us with updates on what’s going on.Xbox has confirmedits presentation will be just before the Starfield Direct on June 11. What we might see remains anyone’s guess, but it probably won’t be Fable 4.
