There are plenty of zones designed to be spooky, while others have little details hidden in plain sight. Many of the creepiest aspects of WoW are found through exploring and observing the environment. You might get a shock when you see them.

13The Throne Room of Lordaeron

This is one of the most obvious spooky places, yetsome of the creepiest aspects aren’t obvious at first. You may never have gone into the old throne room of Lordaeron. Maybe you only passed through it briefly on your way down to the Undercity.

However, if you turn up your ambiance volume, wait a while, and listen, you’ll hear the faint, ghostly words of Arthas Menethil.Thequotes are from Warcraft 3, when he conquered his father’s kingdom for the scourge. If you look on the floor, you’ll even see the blood trail from King Terenas’ crown as it fell from his head.

12Forgotten Crypts of Karazhan

A lot of people may be familiar with this hidden location. It has gained notoriety for being one of the creepiest places on Azeroth. Within Deadwind Pass, you may find the well-known Tower of Karazhan. During the Classic era when the game first launched, players discovered a sealed-off crypt hidden behind the tower.

With some glitches and clever tricks, some brave souls have been able to get past the gate and explore the catacombs below. What they found was truly terrifying. One room has a dark pit where you cannot see the bottom. If you jump down, you’ll land on a huge pile of bones. Perhaps the scariest element of the Karazhan Crypt is the Upside-Down Sinners. These were thebodies of humans, hung by ropes from huge chains underwater. This area was originally meant to be part of the Karazhan raid, but it was never completed as it was no longer needed.

11Faces Where You Least Expect Them

This is one of those instances where something spooky is staring you right in the… face. Quite literally. While this looks like a very boring tent at first glance it actually has a creepy feature that once you see it, you’ll never be able to unsee it.

Many campsites around Azeroth featuretents with human faces stitched in with other bits of leather. These are particularly gruesome, especially when you notice them unexpectedly!

10The Path of Glory

Let’s not forget the horror of being caught by theFel Reavertoo. This giant machine somehow manages to sneak up on you when you have your back turned, adding an actual danger to the area. The signature sound and shaking screen effect are the epitome of fear.

9The Worgen of Pyrewood Village

During Classic, the small area of Pyrewood Village in Silverpine Forest was an alliance town full of people. Yet when the sun went down and the moon came up, the people of Pyrewood became something else…

During the night,Worgen roamed the quiet village, hostile to both alliance and horde players.

8Scholomance

Scholomance used to be very different from the horrifying keep it is now. This dungeon was once the home of the wealthy Barov family. Yet they wanted to enjoy their riches forever. A well-known character, Kel’Thuzad, quickly caught wind of this and offered them immortality. In turn,he was given free rein to conduct horrific acts of necromancy within the fortress.

The Cult of the Damned turned the keep into a school for necromancy. The area gets its name from a fabled school of black magic in Romania. The school is even mentioned in Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula.

7Tanaris Tracks

The desert zone of Tanaris holds a dark story if you pay attention to the environment. you’re able to find footprints in the sand coming out of the hub, Gadgetzan. If you follow the tracks, you’ll come acrossvarious remains as you go.

One suggests the travelers had a scuffle, and many didn’t make it. Those that did survive continued their journey, but they didn’t get much further…

6Thaddius' Origins in Naxxramas

Thaddius is one of the bosses from the Naxxramas raid. This raid is creepy in general, and this boss may not seem much different from many patched-together creatures in the raid. However, if you listen to the sounds in-game, you’re likely tohear the screaming and wailing of suffering souls.

It turns out thatThaddius is made of the flesh of women and children.Their tormented souls are said to have been ‘fused’ together. When you kill Thaddius, he simply thanks you. Perhaps it is a sign that those that suffered within this prison of flesh have now found peace.

5Kraken of Vol’dun

If you havea fear of deep water and sea monsters, this may be one of the scariest points on our list. Deep below the waves, off the northern coast of Vol’dun, you may find a flurry of jellyfish. Below them, there is a small sanctuary of Tortollan. If you keep heading north, you’ll quickly come face-to-face with this colossal creature.

You cannot interact with the kraken, but interacting with the Tortollan horn will cause it to swim closer to you.

4The Unseen in Raven Hill

For a while, many players found that doing any kind of AoE attack within the abandoned house in Raven Hill, Duskwood would cause them to die. It wasn’t clear what was causing the damage and attacking them. However, warlocks soon realised, with the help of the spell Detect Invisibility, there are actually ghosts.

Theseneutral spirits, known as Unseen, will only attack when harmed, but it’s safe to say it’s rather creepy that they were lurking there the whole time.
