My fellowSonicfans sure do love to fight. Whether it’s over which game is the best, Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic, or whetherSonadow is the best ship of all time, there’s always something. This week, instead of fighting amongst themselves, the Sonic community is fighting a kite.Specifically, a 17 metre long kite shapes like an octopus, complete with legs billowing in the wind like a Lovecraftian nightmare. It’s big, it’s pretty, it’s a little creepy, and the Sonic fandom is ready to take it on.RELATED:Sonic Frontiers: All Islands, RankedThe octopus kites have been floating around for years. However, user Rainmaker1973 recently shared a video of the kites on Twitter byErich Chew on YouTube, and attracted the attention of the Sonic community in the process.

Of course, an octopus flying through the sky looks a lot like the Squid enemy and the Wyvern boss from Sonic Frontiers. As just one of many huge monsters in Frontiers, they fly around the map, leaving trails for Sonic to chase behind on and eventually take out. Most enemies in Frontiers have a similar aesthetic to the kite, being primarily black and red, with lots of tendrils and a generally uncanny style of movement.

As soon as Sonic Twitter picked up on this kite, the memes have been endless. Some havephotoshopped Super Sonic into screenshots of the video, while others simply all-caps screamlyrics to the main boss theme of the game, Undefeatable. Some other users poked fun at the sheer volume of Sonic fans making the same jokes, such asMemoriesOfEnvy jokingthat “we Sonic fans only share one braincell, but it’s like the coolest braincell ever”.

A particularly impressive addition to the joke is bymajindoodles, who produced incredibly detailed art showcasing Super Sonic beating the crap out of the kite, complete with a Frontiers-style boss bar. Because if there’s one thing that Sonic fans know how to do, it’s how to be entirely too extra when it comes to memes:

It isn’t just Sonic fans who’ve been keeping up with the memes this year. Just a couple of weeks ago, Sega decided to kill off its mascot in the April Fools’ gameThe Murder of Sonic Hedgehog. The free visual novel had you investigate Sonic’s murder, and somehowmanaged to get higher reviewsthan both the well-received Frontiers and the middling Sonic Origins.

As for Frontiers itself, new story DLCis on the way, with lead writer Ian Flynn returning. We’re also awaiting thereturn of the iconic spindashmove in a future update, which hasn’t stopped players fromtrying to do it ahead of timeby hurling Sonic right at the floor at high speeds.
