Silent Hillfans are roasting a new line of t-shirts, mouse pads, hoodies and caps based on Silent Hill 2 that comes from an official collaboration betweenKonamiand Online Ceramics.
If there’s one gaming series that’s no stranger to controversial merchandise, it’s Silent Hill. Before Konami finally confirmed that more was coming for the series, it gleefully revealed new bits of merchandise left right and centre, ignoring the fact that fans had been waiting more than a decade for something new. Thankfully, we’re no longer waiting for the promise of more Silent Hill, but that hasn’t stopped the latest line of merchandise from causing a stir.

This time around, the clothing range comes from a collaboration between Konami and Online Ceramics, who are known for their clothes being bold with massive text and colourful imagery - in the politest way possible, their clothing is reminiscent of the kind of thing that someone would make on WordArt, only with a price of $55 for shirts and $120 for hoodies.
Online Ceramics is pretty popular, so that approach is clearly working out for it, but it might not be the best fit for something as subtle and psychological as Silent Hill. In fact, Silent Hill 2 specifically is known as one of the most chilling and creepy horror games of all time, which makes chucking James' dead wife on a coffee mug a bit garish.
And yet, that’s exactly what Konami decided to do. Earlier this week,it revealed that the collaboration with Online Ceramics had gone live and the results are… interesting to say the least. Over on its site, there is a range of frankly baffling shirts made up of screencaps from the game with random quotes chucked on, along with the Online Ceramics logo taking up more room than the Silent Hill content. Again, these are $55 shirts and $120 hoodies.
This is by far one of the most strange lines of merchandise that Silent Hill has ever had, and fans of the series have taken notice. Over on Twitter, fans are roasting the collection as being very “graphic design is my passion”, with a bunch of different memes and posts making fun of how the clothes are designed.
All you need to do to see how fans are reacting to the clothes istake a look at this Twitter post from Konami. One particularly brutal post from Twitter user allenr85 says, “Damn Konami just hire me if you want someone to toss some garbage on a tshirt and sell it for $300 bucks”, along with a neat little diagram. Others call it the “ugliest SH merch” they’ve ever seen, with most of the complaints going towards the massive Online Ceramics URL that’s pasted everywhere.
Of course, this is really thepointof Online Ceramic’s clothing, so it’s really just doing what it’s supposed to. Some people seem to get that and are ironically celebrating the clothing line, but it definitely seems like more people are just annoyed by it. Personally, I absolutely hate it, but I’m also hovering over the purchase button for the zip-up hoodie that spoils the plot of the entire game, so what do I know? At the very least, it’s definitely a talking point.
