The Witcher 3has a way of making sure that what goes around, comes around. This is especially true when it comes to the words that you get Geralt to say to people antagonizing him. For this reason, it pays to watch your tongue and to try and be as diplomatic as possible.

That said playing it safe may have you miss out on some content, like in the unmarked side quest “The Flame Of Hatred”, which occurs after Geralt insults and humiliates a preacher in the pious streets of Novigrad. That preacher will be heard, even if those words come from the fist of a Witch Hunter.

How To Start The Flame Of Hatred

This quest starts after youcome across a witcher-hating preacherin Novigrad, east of Hierarch Square. He will be spouting some nonsense about how witchers are mutants deserving of hate.

Ask Him About The Lives He Has Saved

Geralt willintimidate the preacherand cause the crowd to disperse. These options willprogress the quest.

Either option willdisperse the crowdand end the encounter.

Should You Surrender Your Weapons Or Not?

Several days after the encounter, after choosing the first two options,Geralt will be approached by two guards. They accuse him of “offending religious sentiment” and make it clear that the preacher had demanded this encounter.

They will ask Geralt tosurrender his weapons. They willattack him immediately after, even if you cooperate.

It is best tokeep your weapons. It will end the fight more quickly.

You will have todefeat both guardsmento complete the quest. They are not particularly dangerous, so long as you kept your weapons. The quest will automatically complete once they have been put back in their place.
