When you think of classicResident Evil, you probably think of slowly sneaking around Spencer Mansion, fixed camera angles concealing all sorts of horrible creatures before you accidentally blunder your way into them. The fixed camera angle has pretty much died in survival horror these days, as more recent Resident Evil titles have decided to go for an over-the-shoulder view or are simply in first-person (looking at you Ethan Winters).

Resident Evil 4was the first mainline game in the series to ditch the fixed camera angles, single handedly reinventing the genre and inspiring countless other franchises due to how groundbreaking it was at the time. There’s always a small part of you that wonders what might have been should Capcom have decided to stick with fixed camera angles though, and a fan that goes by Cycu1 on YouTube has given us a general idea of what it might have looked like with the recently released remake (thanksGamesRadar).

The video showing off this classic camera mode has been embedded below for your viewing pleasure, and take us through the opening portion ofResident Evil 4 Remake, all the way up to the village fight with Dr. Salavdor. While it must be quite frustrating to fend of a horde of angry Ganados with your view restricted, these fixed cameras do make the opening feel a lot more atmospheric, almost as if Leon’s being watched as he ventures deeper into unknown territory.

It’s worth noting that this video isn’t a showcase for a mod you can download, as there are quite a few fights in Resident Evil 4 Remake that would be almost impossible if you took control of the camera away. Instead, Cycu1 has explained in the video’s description that this is just a concept mod to demonstrate what it could have looked like if Capcom decided to bring back fixed camera angles all of a sudden. Now all we need is tank controls and Resident Evil 4 Remake would start feeling a lot more like the old-school Resident Evil we all know and love.

In other Resident Evil 4 Remake news, the director of the original game - Shinji Mikami - recently revealed that he’s managed to carve out some time from his presumably busy work schedule to play the game from beginning to end. Just like the rest of us, Mikami is a big fan of Resident Evil 4 Remake andapparently “enjoyed it very much”, much to the relief of some probably very nervous developers. That is definitely one project that you don’t want to muck up.
