DespiteResident Evil 4 Remakebeing celebrated by almost everyone, it has still managed to create a little discourse. Some of you have taken issue withCapcomsignposting barrels and boxes containing loot to be found using yellow paint. Well, there’s now a mod for that. One that ridsResident Evil 4of all its yellow paint, its creator claiming that it makes the remake more immersive.

Created byBonusJZ, and available throughNexus Mods, with the mod applied, you won’t find a single spot of yellow paint throughout the entire game. There’s an option to add blood splatters and insignias instead, so details more in keeping with the game’s scenery. However, as highlighted byGamesRadar’s Austin Wood, users of the mod desperate to feel as one with the remake’s world might regret it.

Yes, those who dislike the yellow paint pointing players in the right direction have a point. Receptacles with useful objects inside aren’t helpfully smattered with paint in real-life. My cutlery drawer isn’t painted yellow to help me remember that’s where I keep the forks. However, what you gain in immersion by removing the yellow paint you likely lose in enjoyment as the game becomes infinitely more annoying.

When the helpful barrels and boxes aren’t splattered in yellow, you have to search everything to find the good stuff. There will likely be a select few of you who enjoy that, but odds are many others will quickly tire of it and want the paint back. The mod’s creator is clearly well aware of that as they’ve also madea mod that turns Resident Evil 4’s bear traps red, something that makes the game a little less immersive but exponentially less annoying.

I’d hazard to guess the red bear trap mod has been the more popular of the two and will also be the one that remains applied the longest for most people. As has already been pointed out by many of you, traps are a lot harder to spot in the remakethan they were in the original game. As for yellow paint, it’s a common trope in video games. HBO even paid homage to the mechanic byusing it as an easter egg in its The Last Of Us adaptation.
