Resident Evil 4is a remake done right. It retains all the plaga-infested zombie-shooting action of the original while amplifying the horror elements thanks to the latest-generation graphics. It tweaks the gameplay just enough to provide a new experience to those who played the 2005 original, and those veterans are now nodding sagely as newcomers discover the subtler bits of Resident Evil 4’s story.

For example, take Reddit user53R105LY_, who recently posted their realization that the village priest shares some physical features that look a lot like the symbol for Los Illuminados. “TYO when I realized that his body is not conveniently mutated into the shape of the symbol,” they wrote. “We are literally looking at the Los Plagas parasite walking around in his skin… which makes it worse, somehow.”

Bitores Mendez, the third boss of Resident Evil 4 (or fourth, depending if you count theChainsaw Sistersas a boss), showcases a human that has been fully infected by the Plaga parasite. Once fully formed, little of the original body remains as the Plaga’s insectile body replaces most of the host’s anatomy. And, as you can see in the photo below, the Plaga’s long thorax and multijointed limbs bear a striking resemblance to the Los Illuminados symbol.

It’s a fun bit of environmental storytelling that dates back to the original Resident Evil 4. It’s also fun looking on and seeing the reactions of fans both old and new making the same connection at the same time. One fan noted in the comments that it wasn’t until their playthrough of the VR version of Resident Evil 4 did they realize thatSaddler is most likely fully controlled by the parasitesand not the other way around.

Ready for more environmental storytelling? With all this talk of the Separate Ways DLCcoming to the Resident Evil 4 remake, fans are sharing the story of Leon’s Jacket. You might have noticed that Leon sheds his bomber soon after his first encounters with the Gonados. He never seems all that concerned about it,even though it’s very expensive, and he manages to go the rest of the game without its protective benefit.

Turns out, despite being infected by a brain-eating parasite, at least one Gonado saw the benefit of a nice jacket. In Separate Ways, Ada comes across a Gonado wearing Leon’s jacket. She even kills the guy, but still doesn’t take that jacket to give back to Leon when she eventually finds him.

Oh, andHunnigan actually plays bingo, which might explain one of Leon’s earliest quips.
