SomeResident Evil 4fans are only just realising that Separate Ways shows you what happened to Leon’s iconic jacket after he loses it in the opening chapters of the game.

Ever since the original Resident Evil 4 released back in 2005, fans have been wondering one thing - why the hell did Capcom give Leon such a sick jacket if he was only going to lose it after an hour of playtime? Leon’s jacket (which apparently costs more than a grand) is one of gaming’s most iconic looks, yet he doesn’t seem to care one bit when he wakes up and it’s gone. In fact, it’s not even addressed in the original game what actually happened to it.

Since it’s not mentioned in the main campaign, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the jacket just gets burnt or thrown away when Leon encounters the big cheese. As several Resident Evil fans just found out, though, that’s not the case - you’re able to actually find out what happened to Leon’s jacket by playing the Separate Ways mode.

Redditor Jeffery2084 shared an image on the Resident Evil subredditof them discovering the jacket in Separate Ways for the first time. As you can see, it reveals that Leon’s jacket wasn’t thrown away or lost, it was actually stolen by a thrifty Ganado. Ada comes across the Ganado during her campaign and after killing him will say, “That looks like Leon’s jacket”. For some ungodly reason, Ada then decides to just leave the incredibly expensive and tasteful jacket lying on the rotting corpse of what is basically a zombie.

Although diehardResident Evil 4fans have probably already seen this little detail before, it seems that a decent number of players never knew what happened to Leon’s jacket, either because they didn’t play Separate Ways or they didn’t pay attention to the swaggy Ganado. Several fans had no idea that it was in Separate Ways and praise Capcom for its attention to detail, even all the way back in 2005.

Resident Evil 4 fans resurfacing this little detail is extra relevant right now, aseveryone is waiting on Capcom to add Separate Ways to Resident Evil 4’s remake. Some of the comments underneath the post have some clever ideas on how to bring the detail back, like having one Ganado wearing Leon’s jacket and another wearing Ashley’s, as we know that she loses hers at some point too. Others suggest being able to unlock a special costume for Ada if you interact with it, but why would you want to take it away from the Ganado?
