Updated May 24, 2025, by Caitlin Thursfield:There’s no shortage of danger on the cannibalistic island in the Sons of the Forest. Since its full launch, there have been lethal boss fights and even more horrifying mutations to keep you on edge. Whether you’re delving into the story or embracing the survival aspect, it’s impossible to avoid hostile enemies. You’ll have to keep your weapons close during your stay on the island. Luckily, there aremany weapons to choose fromto keep you safe. To make your journey easier, we’ve compiled a list of the most dangerous enemies to look out for.
High Jump
Slam
Legsys are easily recognised by their legs, surprisingly. They’ll also do a clapping motion with their legs, which can be intimidating. They’re large enemies that run surprisingly fast, so you might struggle to get away from them. Since they have lots of health, it’s a good idea to avoid them before being fully prepared.
Legsy can attack by slamming its legs down or leaping at you. If you can dodge them, you’ll be lucky, as the attacks are dangerous and can hurt badly. If found in caves, Legsy may hang from the ceiling and jump on you in a surprise attack.
Charge
Arm Swing
Armsy is a well-known enemy from the first game that has numerous arms protruding from its body. In The Forest, Armsys were known to have powerful arm swings that knocked down trees and buildings. Luckily, they don’t do as much damage in this game, but they’re just as deadly.
Be careful of Armsy’s charging attacks and flailing arms. Unlike other enemies, Armsys struggle to keep track of prey and might stand still to get their bearings. These moments can be great opportunities to attack, but you’ll still need to watch out for swinging limbs.
Creepy Virginias are also familiar to players from the first game. With multiple legs, Creepy Virginia’s move very fast and can be difficult to keep track of. If you’re unfortunate enough to encounter them in the dark, just hope you’ll get out alive.
These mutants have a range of dangerous attacks. They can leap at you from far away and deal large amounts of damage. Creepy Virginias may also lift a few legs up before charging at you, much like a spider. Since they can knock you down, these enemies can be incredibly lethal if you’re caught off guard.
Food and Dining Bunker
Swipe attack
Leap attack
As you progress through the story of Sons of the Forest, you will search for the location of the wealthy Puffton family. This quest will take you down into a bunker, where you will be met with a pseudo-boss fight involving two elderly mutants that crawl through glass to attack you.
Sadly, these two mutants are the exact couple you’ve been looking for, identified by their formal clothing. While these may seem like normal mutants, they have more health and deal more damage. Their attacks can stagger you, leaving you vulnerable to more attacks, making them much more dangerous than you’d expect.
Bite
The Twins are found in dark caves, typically climbing across walls and ceilings to get the jump on you while you explore these cramped spaces. These mutants are two torsos joined by the hips, and use their two sets of arms to inflict rapid melee attacks and sprint around swiftly.
The Twins have a stealthier approach to fights and can catch you off guard. They can be especially dangerous in caves where it’s darker. The Twins often hang from ceilings or crawl from holes in the floor. Since they have no attack cooldown, approaching them at melee range is an incredibly dangerous tactic. The best way to dispose of these spider-like mutants is to keep your distance and attack the creaturewith ranged weapons.
Surface (often with cannibal tribes)
Belly flop
Punch
Kick
These large cannibals have covered their bodies in red paint and will typically attack you after you have constructed a base. Since these melee units are so large, they can easily destroy barricades and walls, allowing smaller cannibals to sneak past your defenses.
On top of punching you, Titans also have a belly flop attack, jumping into the air and throwing their entire body at you. If you are quick enough to dodge the attack, it will be stuck on the ground for several seconds, leaving it exposed to melee attacks.
Attacks
Swing attack
Known commonly as the Fingers, these twisted mutants are found in caves and have upper bodies made up of ribcages that form a mouth. Since these beasts have no arms, they swing their entire upper body like a sword to inflict heavy damage on you.
Due to their lack of arms, damaging the knees of the fingers will cause it to collapse, and leave it vulnerable for several seconds. However, be extremely vigilant when attempting to stun these beasts, since you must willingly enter melee range to inflict the stun.
Perhaps the most disgusting creature in the game, the rattler twins are two upper bodies fused together at their waists. This worm-like mutant flips around, almost moving like a wheel, and can even crawl over defensive walls.
Since this creature flops around incredibly quickly, attempting to dodge its melee attacks is almost impossible. To defeat this mutant, climb high on structures and predict its movements with ranged attacks and explosives.
Stab
Found only in the molten caves at the very end of the game, Demons are pale and skinny mutants that crawl towards you on all fours. These mutants typically attack in packs and have spikes instead of hands to stab you to death.
Unlike the other mutants in the game, Demons can only be hurt by the Holy Cross, making them impervious to all other weapons. If you enter the final cave prepared, then use the cross to immolate these beasts and complete the main story.
Lava cave
At the very end of the game, you will face off against one final Demon in an epic boss fight, but be wary; this final monster is significantly larger than the other Demons in the game. Furthermore, the Holy Cross only does a small amount of damage to this specific beast, meaning you shouldcome equipped for a lengthy fight.
Luckily, this boss still has a similar attack pattern to the other Demons found throughout the endgame caves, so you will have some practice when it comes to dodging the monster’s dangerous attacks. Overall, while this fight is certainly the hardest in the game, arming yourself with heavy machine guns and explosives will help you dispose of this beast.
