Sons Of The Forestis currently anEarly Access title on Steam, but it already has a lot of lore and a running story that you can complete. Although you are meant to slowly piece things together with the scattered pieces of information across the island, it’s hard not to feel like there is still so much left unsaid.

There are bound to be some changes and additions down the line, so it’ll be worth it to see if anything is resolved later on. But for now, you will be left with many questions in the end after going through the various layers of the island.

6Is That Eric And Timmy In The End?

Eric LeBlanc is the main protagonist of the first game,The Forest. His entire arc is about finding his son, Timmy, who you can choose to save in the end. In Sons Of The Forest, you are rescued at the last minute by two unnamed individuals who seem to have firsthand knowledge of dealing with the mutants that you face.

They have a helicopter ready to take you to safety if you get the good ending, too. So, is this actually Eric and Timmy? There are books written by them that suggest that they have a direct link to the events that transpire, and the two men do look like they fit the part.

5Who Are The Inhabitants Of Holosprings?

We know that the now-mutated creatures that haunt the decrepit halls of the Holosprings bunkers were once normal residents that were likely wealthy enough to afford the resort’s offerings. The question that remains is whether they were privy to the Artifact and the underlying goal that Edward Puffton had.

Were they part of an exclusive club of elites that joined this bunker community with the express goal of tapping into alternate dimensions? Or perhaps they were just unsuspecting folk who thought they were buying great properties on an isolated island. Talk about eating the rich.

4What Exactly Happened To Virginia?

A few days into the game, we meet Virginia. Along with Kelvin, she is one ofthe most helpful NPCsyou can encounter with endearing demeanors. We learn that she has likely been mutated due to the dimensional pull that the Artifact causes, but she doesn’t become completely distorted to the same level as the others. Why did Virginia get affected, and why does she have the chance to survive the changes that can kill the others?

There’s a possibility that she was deliberately experimented on to test the capabilities of the cube, but it also seems like she lived in good conditions and even became the sole benefactor of her father’s fortune. There’s also the question of the extent of her mutation and whether this affects her capability for speech. Finally, the existence of the Virginia sketch from the first island could imply a specific mutation or another timeline that saw her appearance there.

3Were The Forest’s Missionaries Right?

One of the more interesting weapons you can find in the game is The Cross. It can easily be overlooked because it is largely harmless when used in the overworld. However, when you explore the lower bunkers, you will meet Demons that will recoil at the presence of the cross and even get lit on fire.

Although this is likely due to the material used to create the cross directly affecting the mutations of these creatures, it can be tied back to the history of missionaries visiting both this island and the peninsula from the first game. Is it possible that they had come close to defeating the worst mutations for good, but any reasonable records were purged by the likes of Sahara Therapeutics?

2Who Is The Person In The Silver Jacket?

We meet a person in a silver jacket that clearly doesn’t want us poking around the island. After you awaken from your crash, this person will attack you and leave you to your fate. You will only have a direct confrontation with them again later on at the final bunker as they make a final attempt at killing you. Then, they appear again as you enter the golden cube that connects you to a mysterious city.

Other moments are blink-and-you-miss-it, like the VIP dining bunker with windows where he watches you and suddenly seemingly gets pulled into the water. This person clearly doesn’t work for the same company as you, so what is their purpose? You never learn the true identity of this individual or their intentions.

1Are We Even In The Same Universe As The First Game?

Sons Of The Forest firmly establishes that the artifact in question can manipulate reality and potentially connect alternate dimensions. Its misuse is the very reason that the bunkers’ residents even turned into abominations.

We know this is set at least twenty years after the events of the first game, but we never really know for sure if it’s even in the same timeline. We don’t even know the true nature of the city we get a glimpse of in the end. Perhaps we havehopped to another dimensionby way of the cube and don’t even return to the same island.
