PUBG’s upcoming 23.2 update will add a new Apex Legends-style respawn system. This comes after PUBG already added a Gulag-style comeback mechanic for its Taego and Vikendi maps.
The new respawn system is called Recall, and just like in Apex Legends, you’ll need to scavenge an item off your dead friend to make it work. Where in Apex you need to grab your dead comrade’s banner, in PUBG you need to swipe their Blue Chip and then find either a Blue Chip Tower or a Blue Chip Transmitter.

Blue Chip Towers work a lot like the Respawn Beacon in Apex Legends. Blue Chip Towers spawn randomly on the map and provide you with an option to revive a dead teammate. If you’ve got a Blue Chip in your inventory and you come across a Blue Chip tower, you’ll be able to interact with it to revive your friend.
There are, however, several differences. In Apex, squad mates are revived after five seconds, but it takes ten seconds to revive a dead PUBG player. Also, they don’t drop from the sky immediately. Instead, teammates will get flown in at the beginning of the next phase (that’s when the blue circle closes).
Just like in Apex, there will be a very loud noise that alerts everyone in the area, and if you get knocked down or killed before you complete the recall sequence, your friend remains a corpse. Unlike in Apex, Blue Chip Towers can be used again, but they go offline for a while after each recall.
Your other option to recall a friend is to use a Blue Chip Transmitter. These are consumable items that you can find that work similarly to Blue Chip Towers but are consumed after use. Just like with Towers, they’ll emit a loud noise, but you can take them around to use anywhere you like. You can’t use them underwater, in a vehicle, or while down, and you also can’t be sneaky by crawling or crouching. As with Towers, friends revive with the next phase by parachuting in.
Unlike in Apex, recalled mates come with zero equipment. Also, if you die after recalling a friend but before the next phase begins, your friend doesn’t get recalled. There has to be at least one survivor at the beginning of the phase for recalls to work.
Recalls cannot be performed past Phase 6, so this system only works up to a point. It’s also only available on Erangel, Miramar, and Deston. PUBG’s big maps, Taego and Vikendi, still use theGulag-style Comeback BR mechanicinstead.
In addition to respawns, update 23.2will bring new vehicle icons so you never have to worry about losing your car as well as a new clan system too. Patch 23.2 arrives on May 16 for PC and May 24 for consoles.
