The latest anime series in thePokemonfranchise, Pokemon Horizons, premiered in Japan this week. It opened with an hour-long special as it shifted focus from Ash to newcomers Liko and Roy. However, it’s not just the new characters that fans are talking about. In its first episode, the anime teased a new Pokemon that many believe is a pre-evolution of the Legendary Pokemon Terapagos. The folks atSerebiishared a screengrab of the Pokemon in question. While I am by no means a Pokemon expert, the mysterious Pokemon does seem to have a connection to the large turtle-likeTerapagos. For starters, they both look to have bedazzled shells. Along with a similarly hued skin, the two Pokemon also share blue gem features on and around the face.Related:Pokemon Horizons Opening Scene LeakedThere is also the upcomingPokemon Scarlet & VioletDLC that supports a focus on Terapagos and its potential other forms. The significantly sized DLC is set to debut later this year and focuses on theHidden Treasure of Area Zero. This means players are about to interact with new areas and new Pokemon. Well, we already know that one of those Pokemon will be the turtle-like Terapagos.
Therefore, it makes sense that the anime series would begin introducing clues and details about this Legendary Pokemon in the months leading up to its gaming debut. What better way to get to know the new creature than to spend time with its pre-evolution? Not to mention that having a form of Terapagos in the anime series would be a great way to bridge the gap between the series’ new protagonists and the already-established games in the Pokemon universe.
So, if I was a betting man, I would say this new Pokemon is some pre-form of Terapagos. Whether that means it is just a baby version, a pre-evolution, or a different form altogether I am less clear on. I just think it is too big of a coincidence for the franchise to throw two different bejeweled turtles at us and not have a connection.
Unfortunately, Pokemon Horizons is currently only airing in Japan. The anime will be making its way to us, through Netflix, at a later date. Perhaps its Western debut will coincide with the release of the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC. Speaking of, the new DLC is being brought to us in two parts. Part one is called The Teal Mask and will open the Kitakami region to players this Autumn. Part two is set for a winter release and is dubbed The Indigo Disk.
