Like A Dragon: Ishinis epic to play through, and even for a historical spin-off, it’s not lighthearted. The rival political factions in Japan gave Ryoma Sakamoto a harder life than he should’ve had for a man who had a straightforward nature and a clear heart.

Butafter the main story, you’re left wondering what to do next. Fret not, because there are many other hidden quests that you can explore in both Kyo and Tosa, and it will make you feel like life went on after the events of the main plot.
10The Junk Boy
Available as soon as you start the second chapter, The Junk Boy is a side quest that you shouldn’t miss. The story revolves around a boy who wants to play with his friends but doesn’t have toys or anything to offer. You’ll find him sulking at a corner, south of Kuramachi.
In classic Ryoma fashion, you may give him anything in your inventory, and you will form a bond with this boy. No good deed goes unrewarded, and you get 150 Virtue for this. But some players alsotroll around by giving the kid a worm— and he’ll still be happy with it.

9The Desperate Fisherman
Everybody has something they’re passionate about. But passion doesn’t equate to having talent, and that’s the dilemma the fisherman in this story is having. This unfortunate fisherman can be found at Shinmachi’s riverbank.
He’s so bad at fishing that his wife tells him that he can’t fish anymore if he doesn’t catch one on that same day. If you choose to help him, you form a bond with him and gain 150 Virtue. Give a man a fish, and he’ll learn how to fish eventually (hopefully).

8The Amnesiac
On the road to Kiyomizu Temple, there will be a man lying on the road once you enter Chapter Four of the main story. Approach him and give him any medicine, if you have any on you.
Once you treat him, he’ll come around and realize that he has no memories. You’ll form a bond with him after your first encounter, and you’ll have to treat him a few more times to raise your bond with him. What’s hard to miss about this substory is the fact that you might forget about him after your first interaction.

7Diplomacy In Darkness
Ryoma’s known for taking his liquor well and having drinking buddies from all sorts of places, but one of our constant thirst companions gets himself in danger in this substory by getting kidnapped and held in Mukurogai.

This quest is found at Fushimi Ichibangai, and you can access it once you’ve found most of Satow’s memoirs. Having said that, this quest takes time to complete and can be considered endgame content.
6The Reclusive Son
Accessible during Chapter Fourafter unlocking Another Life, this substory features what shut-in culture would look like in Edo Japan. You’ll find a mother and her grown “heyazumi” son arguing outside on the streets of East Umekojicho.
The mother ‘tricked’ her son to leave his room, and he storms back in after a bitter exchange. If you agree to talk with her son, you’ll have to be as understanding as you can be. Helping him pays off a lot, and you’ll get 350 Virtue, Iron Gauntlets, and a Rainbow Shard.

5The Mysterious Merchant
Another substory that opens up when you reach Chapter Four, this one is beneficial for you to complete since it grants you access to a black market shop right after the quest. Unlocked at West Umekojicho, there’s a wooden booth that Ryoma can lean against for a break.
The exchange will go from sketchy to hilarious, as the mysterious man is only looking for tomatoes to be delivered to him. He’s willing to pay two ryo for ten tomatoes, which is big for a deal just for a few vegetables.

Visiting Mukurogai is a bad idea for anybody who’s lived long enough in Kyo, and if you’re looking for trouble, exploring this side story might be a good way to burn your time. When you come back to Mukurogai, it’ll feel like deja vu.

That’s because the ones that greet you in this part of town just look forward to robbing you. If you want to beat some sense into them, or release some steam from the events of the game, this quest will be a good outlet for you. It also gives you 375 Virtue.
3Death Of The Author
If you think there’s not much to see at Teradaya Inn, you’ll want to explore the place a bit more and know the other people who live around the place. If you do miss this quest, we don’t blame you—it’s hard to hear a silent scream after all.
You’ll find this quest on the second floor of the Teradaya Inn, when you hear a scream (in dialogue) from one of your neighboring rooms. You can choose to enter the room and help the struggling writer who is out of inspiration, and get generous rewards in return.

2Hope Blossoms Again
This substory isn’t for anybody who loves dogs and animals in general — if you still decide to go through this, just be ready for the emotional damage you’re about to receive for being unable to save an innocent dog.
It gets worse when you realize the reason behind the dog’s name, and why the old couple is heartbroken after the whole ordeal. After this painful quest, you get 350 Virtue and a Double Worship Talisman in return.

It’s all chill until you head over to Gion to meet Saigo, who Satow eventually meets, but not before you take Saigo’s bodyguard down. You head back, to the original quest area, then bid Satow farewell before he ships himself off back to Britain.
