Video game adaptations are more relevant than ever nowadays, mostly down to high-profile successes likeHBO’s The Last of UsandThe Super Mario Bros. Movie. Every publisher under the sun is looking for a much-beloved franchise for a potential adaptation, and you wont find many out there with more IP in the bank thanPlayStation. Of course, it already has it’s foot in the door with the aformentioned Last of Us TV show and the recently released Uncharted movie, but it’s looking like the company has no intention of slowing down any time soon.

In thelatest episode of the Official PlayStation Podcast, head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash spoke about the challenges of adapting video game titles into movies and TV shows, whilst also revealing how many projects it has underway at the moment. According to Qizilibash, PlayStation Productions is working on ten different adaptations which include movies, television, and a “little bit of animation”.

“So we’ve got ten projects in various stages of development, which is really exciting,” says Qizilbash when asked what PlayStation Productions is currently working on. “Film, television, a little bit of animation as well, and what’s really exciting for me is the diversity of the stories we’ve got.”

We knew that PlayStation had plenty of adaptations in the works - it felt for a little while that we couldn’t go two weeks without it announcing one of its big franchises will be getting a movie or TV show. We have confirmedGod of WarandGran Turismo adaptationscurrently in the works, as well asa Horizon Zero Dawn TV show,a Twisted Metal seriesfor streaming service Peacock, anda Ghost of Tsushima moviefrom John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski. There’s alsoa second season of HBO’s The Last of Uscoming in the future too.

Those are the concrete projects we know of, though there are supposedly projects based onDays Gone,Gravity Rush, and Jak and Daxter that we haven’t heard much about for a while. Even with those thrown onto the pile, that only gives us nine adaptations, which means PlayStation has at least one more unannounced movie or TV show that we don’t know about yet. It’s also interesting to hear Qizilbash talk about animation considering none of the currently announced projects have been described as animated shows or movies

PlayStation has so many beloved franchises that it would be impossible to guess what this mystery animated project is going to be, but this does signify that PlayStation is fully committed to bringing its biggest titles to other mediums, be that for better or worse.
