If you’ve regularly used aPlayStationconsole at any point over the last decade, you’ll probably have been given a mild panic attack after seeing a couple of emails thanking you for a purchase you couldn’t remember making, even if your life depended on it. It’s a universal experience for most PlayStation fans that have ever redeemed a couple of PS Plus freebies whenever they’re made available for download.
Not everyone checks their emails every day, so when you get some from PlayStation thanking for you a purchase, your mind immediately jumps to the worst possible conclusion. The platform has doing this for years now, much to the pleas of the fanbase begging for PlayStation to stop sending out emails for PS Plus downloads. Well, it seem like PlayStation has finally listened, as many fans are noticing they’re not receiving a batch of emails after downloading this month’s PS Plus offerings.

First noted byPlayStation Lifestyle(thanksVGC), a Reddit thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is filled with users finding that they haven’t received any emails after downloading either Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Meet Your Maker, or Tails of Iron. There are even some people claiming that they haven’t received any emails after downloading any of the PlayStation catalogue’s recently added titles either, suggesting PlayStation has finally begun to spare our inboxes from avalanches of free download receipts.
I say “suggesting” because there’s been no word from Sony or PlayStation about this change, as it’s seemingly come from absolutely nowhere. It’s possible there could be some kind of glitch in their automated emailing system that just hasn’t been caught or fixed yet, but if you head to download a free PS Plus game right now, you won’t get an email. Having just downloaded this month’s PS Plus games myself to verify this story, I can also confirm that no emails have been receieved yet at the time of writing.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the PS Plus emails have finally stopped for good, though I think I speak for most people when I say that if something is broken, it might be better left unfixed. If the same thing happens with May’s batch of PS Plus freebies, then I think we can safely say that PlayStation has finally seen reason.
In other PlayStation news, it was recently announced that a PlayStation State of Play showcase will take place tomorrow, focusing on Final Fantasy 16. The show promises around 20 minutes of new gameplay footage for fans to pick apart before release, although there seems to be very little chance of seeing any other announcements that aren’t Final Fantasy related. If you’re interested, the show starts at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST.
