There’s nothing quite like a long trip on the open road. The scenic views, the roadside novelties, the part where you finally get to stop somewhere and use the bathroom. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience. But what if you could combine that experience with the joy and wonder of a video game?

No, we don’t mean putting your car on autopilot so that you may play some Cuphead on the dashboard. What if you could grab a few of your closest friends and take a long trip across some of the best open worlds in gaming? If that were the case, we’ve got a few places in mind that we’d like to visit.

6Hyrule

Want to see a few gorgeous landscapes throughout your road trip? Curious to know what thebreath of the wildsmells like? Then why not pay a visit to the fields of Hyrule? You’ll no doubt be impressed by lovely natural landmarks around, such as “literally everything.”

Sure, you may have to avoid a few bloodthirsty guardians and travel through some destroyed villages to really get to the good stuff. We’d also avoid the large, corruption-laced castle at the center of it all if it were us. But if you’re intohiking, rock climbing, mountain climbing,or just any general form of climbing, we’ve got some great news for you.

If you’re the free-spirited type, looking to head whichever way the wind blows, we’d highly recommend visiting gorgeousfeudal-era Tsushimathe next time you get a chance.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. “I don’t know. I’ve seen my share of trees and grassy plains in my day, and I’m pretty sure I know about every color they could possibly be.” My friend, you could not be more wrong. And while you’re out, why not visit one of Tsushima’s scenic lakes or lovely villages and chat with the locals? Just make sure you get there before the Mongols do! Seriously. Make sure you get there before the Mongols do.

4The Forbidden West (Circa 3020)

Hey, we hear you. You’re not about living in the past. You’re thinking about the future. Well, why not journey out to the beautiful future West Coast? It’ll be one of the most breathtaking trips of your life, and potentially the most eventful as well. View the stunning sunset over thepost-apocalyptic horizon. Take aride on a dangerous, mechanical animal. Stop by an encampment where you are not welcome.

Okay, this one might be the type of road trip where you stay in the car the entire time. Still, how can you pass up the chance to see a robotic dinosaur with a neck the size of a skyscraper? Just pray that no scrappers mistake your car for a small robotic buffalo stuffed with a delicious human filling.

3Los Santos

Speaking of road trips where you keep the windows up at all times, why not venture through sunny Los Santos? The beautiful houses and gorgeous beaches are a perfect distraction from all the people attempting to open your driver’s side door and commitgrand theft auto.

Visit a bank seconds after a heist! Take in the sight of a beautiful yacht that’s being taken over by what appears to be a civilian in a dingy undershirt! Who’s haphazardly flying that helicopter two feet above you on the freeway, you ask? Who knows! It’s all part of the allure of Los Santos.

2The Wild West

If you enjoyed the fast-paced action of your trip through Los Santos, you’ll love the Wild West of the early 1900s. You can visit an old-fashioned saloon, catch a glimpse at some amazing horseback riding, and watch a couple of cowboys have a good old-fashioned shootout!Redemption’snever looked so good.

And what’s more authentic than being hog-tied on the open road by said cowboys, stripped of your valuables, and left in the middle of an arid desert? Heck, if you get to the sheriff in time, you may even be able to file a complaintbefore he’s paid off by the individuals who’ve robbed you. Yeehaw!

1Space

Okay, we understand. Those previous suggestions could be considered a bit… unnerving to some. So instead of wandering through no man’sland, why not head upward, beyond the sky, and treat a few unexplored planets as your tourist attractions? After all, who says a road trip should be confined to the road? Space is full of gorgeous, varied, and unpredictable planets to explore.

No, really - we can’t actually predict what you’ll find up there. It’s all pretty random. Maybe a planet covered in diamonds, with plants that do a little dance as you walk past. Maybe a toxic environment with half-wolf-half-bear carnivores that shoot lasers from their scorpion tails. It’s really anybody’s guess. That’s a part of the fun!
