When you have a video game series that’s as long-running asMortal Kombat, you’re bound to havefans with deferring opinions. Those who played the original games might want to keep the series grounded to its roots, but newer audiences might want to see it adapt with the times. It’s up to the developers to decide which direction to take the series in.
NetherRealmhasexperimented with the series a whole lot, and if the last two games are any indication, has brought the game back to its original formula, but with a current-gen twist of course. However, there will always be differing opinions, and not all of them will be popular. That brings us to the Mortal Kombat Subreddit, where fans have been discussing their most controversial opinions.

“We need new perspectives in the story. It gets boring having to see Earthrealm every game and half the roster be Earthrealmers. There’s so much creativity for other realms to make appearances,” said iGhettoUnicorns, who is a bit tired of seeing the original cast still hogging the limelight after decades.
“The outworld civil war was the most interesting thing about the MKX story mode,” agreed TheGalaxyCastle. “I would love to see other realms make appearances as well, especially Edenia!” Perhaps that’s why series fans have beenhoping that Mortal Kombat 12 brings back the Konquest modefrom Deception.
AstroPug_, who seems to have thought about this for a long time, says, “Takeda and Frost(who would have had a redemption arc) should be the next grandmasters of the Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei respectively. It’s an opportunity for NRS to actually do something with that Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu relationship; younger people could bring in new perspectives or something.”
They even had an opinion on the combat mechanics, “NRS needs to make sure that character attack animations match up with whether the attack is a high low or mid. One of Sub-Zero’s hop overheads has him punching the ground, causing ice to come from the ground. How the **** am I getting hit over my head with a punch to the ground?”
HawlSera has a few words for the community for shunning certain characters. “D’Vorah is a great character, y’all guys are just Scorpion fanboys. Minotaur Motaro isn’t a bad compromise, it just needs to incorporate a centaur transformation for certain attacks. Mokap and Meat are vastly superior to Bo Rai Cho.”
However, some comments say what we all have been thinking. “Guest characters are a wasteof a DLC slot,” says Hydrax313. “I hate how it’s become a thing and that they’ll probably be in MK12 too. No more Rambo, Terminator, Jason, give me Cyborg Ninja’s, Takeda, Reptile, Ermac, Havik, Kenshi, Sareena, Smoke.”
