While theMega Man Battle Networkseries has a variety ofunique mechanics with varying levels of justification, one of its most famous is the Double Soul system from the fourth and fifth entries in the series. A Double Soul is a form Mega Man can take in which he utilizes the skills of other navis he’s become close with over the course of the game.

These forms all come with their own unique aspects, including the ability to completely change the battlefield, give Mega Man new attacks, and even introduce weaknessesthat can make the game harder than it looks. Luckily, pretty much every Double Soul is excellent, but a few do manage to stand out.
10Napalm Soul
You’ll find the Napalm Soullate in the seriesin Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team ProtoMan. This powerful fire-based Double Soul isn’t just powerful; it’s also incredibly fun to learn to use. One major pitfall of this form is its weakness to aqua attacks, so be wary of those enemies.
Outside of that, lava panels actually become useful instead of dangerous, and many of your fire-based attacks will be boosted in strength. With your Fire Vulcan charge shot, you’ll obliterate any enemies, especially if they’re particularly weak to fire.

9Magnet Soul
In Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team ProtoMan, you’ll find what is probably the best electricity-based Double Soul, the Magnet Soul. Obviously, this form is weak to wood attacks, but it does geta boost on electric attacksand resists magnetic panels.
The biggest draw of this form is the paralyzing damage that this form’s charge shot unleashes, as well as its ability to magnetize enemies to the same row as you. As far as set-up forms go, Magnet Soul might just be the most powerful.

8Metal Soul
If you’re feeling a bit metal, then you’ll want to try to get this Double Soul in Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon. The Metal Soul requires a break chip to activate, but your buster gains that break effect, allowing you to damage shielded enemies and break various obstacles.

If you’re stuck dealing with a powerful enemy that either stays in or continuously takes the front row of their field, the Metal Soul’s charged attack will deal with them. The powerful smash attack can deal 150 damage, as well as move the enemy if it managed to survive.
7Wind Soul
While something like the Wind Soul from Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun may seem a bit boring at first, you’ll quickly find yourself hoping it pops up during your playthrough. While it does give you the expected wind-based buster and attacks, it does so much more.
First, all enemy barriers are taken out when the soul is activated, and then you also gain access to both Air Shoes and Float Shoes. A fan effect will be constant, but your wind-based buster will allow you to mess with the set-up of the enemies even further, allowing the flow of battle to twist to your whims.

6Roll Soul
You’ll find yourself getting access toMega Man’s love interest’s soulRoll Soul in Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun. This powerful Double Soul isn’t incredible when it comes to dealing damage, but what it does excel at is providing you with minor healing each time you use a chip in battle.
The ability alone will keep you alive when you’re in tough situations, but with the right folder build, you’ll probably never end up below half of your health, regardless of the fight. Roll Soul is a great power to have access to, especially for newcomers to the series who are yet to master the fun combat.

5Shadow Soul
In Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel, you’ll findthe powerful and ninja-likeShadow Soul. This form does have similarities to some others, but the biggest major additions are the increased speed you’ll have and the ability to use Anti Damage whenever you want.
This form also gives you access to Float Shoes and a charge shot that functions as a Long Sword. If you’ve built a folder for range, using this Double Soul gives you access to a completely different playstyle without sacrificing your painstakingly formed folder.

4Number Soul
This fantastic Double Soul is accessible in both Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon, and 5: Team Colonel. Everyone’s favorite mathematic net navi NumberMan gives you a simple boost to non-elemental chip attack power and a major boost to chip capacity, but it also gives you access to his dice.
A simple charge shot willresult in a die bomb being cast, something that can either deal massive damage directly to an enemy, or in a massive square to any nearby enemies. Mastering this form can make you an unstoppable nightmare.

3Proto Soul
Just about everyone thinks the Proto Soul is the coolest, so it’s a good thing you may use it in both Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon, and 5: Team ProtoMan. One simple but major addition this form gets is the ability to use Reflect whenever you want.

The other major, and obvious, addition is the major emphasis on sword-based attacks. If you have a folder that is filled to the brim with sword-type chips, you won’t even run out of turns with the Proto Soul thanks to all the slicing and dicing you’ll be doing.
2Tomahawk Soul
A surprisingly excellent Double Soul from Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel is the Tomahawk Soul. While it is weak to fire, this form provides more than enough boosts to make up for it. Wood attacks deal double damage, and the stage that becomes populated with grass will continuously heal Mega Man.
You’ll also be immune to status effects while the form is active, and you’ll get a fantastic tomahawk attack as your new charge shot. This form balances healing with dishing out heavy damage, so as long as you can avoid fire, this is easily one of the best forms in any of the games.

1Search Soul
You get access to Search Soul in both Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun, and 5: Team ProtoMan, so it shouldn’t be a surprise most people consider it the best of the Double Souls. The form gives you access to a kind of homing buster shot that deals heavy damage to your opponents.
The real gem of this is the shuffle mechanic you gain access to. You can cause a shuffle in your selectable battle chips, allowing you to quickly go from a terrible set of chips to something wonderful. This dynamic power can change how a battle is going in a single turn, and you can use it up to three times.
