The Super Mario Bros. Movieis finally with us, and it’s pretty alright.Chris Pratt’s take on Mario is going down far better than expected, and the general consensus is that the new cast did a great job with the iconic characters. But there’s one duo that everyone can’t get enough of: the weird and wonderful pairing that is Bowser x Luigi.
With the pair spending so much of the film together (in the sense that Bowser kidnaps Luigi fairly early on), it was inevitable thatsomefans would ship them. But for some reason, it’s on another level. Just days after the film’s premiere, fan art and shitposts depicting the two romantically linked are everywhere online, as viewers believe they were the best couple in the movie by far.

All over Twitter, the Bowuigi community is growing. And honestly, it’s not hard to see why - there was some tension in the air whenever they were on screen together. Probably because Luigi was being tortured, mind.
Indeed, Bowuigi was already a pretty big ship, but it’s only growing in popularity after the new movie opened in cinemas. Sorry, Mario and Peach, there’s a new power couple in town. Although this one probably doesn’t have the approval ofNintendo. Cowards.
Despite this lack of anything approaching canon, the outpouring of support for this unconventional pairing started before many fans had even seen the film. Earlier this month, many shared fake quotes from the cast suggesting that Luigi and Bowser had a thing for each other.
But the best part of all has to be the fans inventing scenes in the movie, posting like there actuallywasa ranchy Luigi and Bowser rendezvous. Soon, they’ll gaslight us all into believing it happened, I’m sure. It’s like the whole “it’s morbing time” thing again, just with shipping this time.
For the sake of the dedicated Bowuigi community, I hope they can feed off the scraps of content the film threw their way for years to come. Better yet, I hope Luigi and Bowser can one day admit their feelings for one another. Please, Nintendo. C’mon.
