Today at MagicCon Philadelphia, Wizards of the Coastgave us our first look at March of the Machine, the climactic conclusion toMagic: The Gathering’s current story arc where Phyrexia invades the multiverse. Apparently, one of the planes marked for invasion will be Zendikar, and one of Zendikar’s most potent residents will be compleated.

You might remember Omnath as the god-like manifestation of Zendikar’s chaotic mana. It started out as the mono-green Omnath, Locus of Mana in Worldwake where it kept getting bigger the more unspent mana you kept in your mana pool. Subsequent versions of Omnath each gained a different color, starting with red in Omnath, Locus of Rage, then blue in Omnath, Locus of Roil, and then white with Omnath, Locus of Creation. Those cards all had Landfall mechanics that did various potent things whenever you played a land.

When Phyrexia arrives in Zendikar during March of the Machine, they’ll somehow manage to compleat Omnath. I guess if they’ve figured outhow to complete a Planeswalker, compleating a manifestation of pure mana is probably not that much different. To signify its pointy new extremities and the Phyrexian oil running through its mana pipes, Omnath’s final color of black is denoted by a Phyrexian mana symbol, which can also be paid with 2 life if you’re a little short on swamps.

Omnath, Locus of All returns to Omnath’s roots, eschewing Landfall mechanics in favor of giving its owner the ability to bank black mana. It also allows its owner to look at the top card of their library and choose to either reveal or not reveal the top card. Revealing the card grants the user up to three mana of any combination based on the revealed card’s mana cost, then they can put that card into their hand. Not revealing the card means no extra mana, but you can still put that card into your hand.

Big bad Phyrexian Omnath will also come in both regular, borderless, and Zendikar Rising’s travel poster-style alternate art frames. March of the Machine arrives on May 18, 2025.
