Resident Evil 4 Remakeis chock full of tiny details that most players are likely to miss even on their second, third, and so-on playthroughs. One small tidbit is that Leon Kennedy doesn’t shiver in the freezer section of the island if he puts his jacket on, as highlighted by statictonality on Reddit.

On your first playthrough, you’re able to’t change cosmetics. Leon throws away his iconic jacket early in the game, opting to rock a tight dark blue shirt that shows off his toned arms. Ahem. Anyway; when you beat the game and start a new playthrough, the costumes menu opens up, and from here you can choose to keep Leon in his jacket from start to finish.

Given that he doesn’t wear a jacket when you first reach the island, when you enter the freezer, he’s understandably cold. You can even see him shivering. If you play through this part again with the jacket now equipped, he doesn’t react. Maybe he shouldn’t have let his coatfall into the hands of an infected villager, eh?

It makes sense. A jacket is designed to keep you warm, especially one as snug and fluffy as Leon’s, but it’s unlikely anyone would have complained if he shivered in the freezer when wearing it. You might get one or two angry gamers on a thread somewhere, but the vast majority wouldn’t notice or care. So, to find that it actually has an impact has come as an appreciated surprise to fans.

“I’m loving all these ‘unnecessary’ details,” Independent-Frequent replied. “It really adds to the experience”. Another commenter, Odd_Radio9225, simply said, “Cool. Literally.” You’re not wrong.

Granted, Leon did spend a day in a dingy, cold police station, full of Lickers, zombies, and an angry fedora-wearing superhuman, so a freezer full of decaying corpses isn’t much new forour favourite himbo. The kitchen is another story. As pointed out by commenter JesusTron6000, Leon has another reaction when finding the mounting pile of dirty plates.

“Going near the gross dishes in [the] kitchen area by the facilities he swats the area and I think covers his nose and comments”, JesusTron6000 said. What do bug-infested zombie people even eat? Other than humans.

While it’s a cool detail, I’ll forever feel bad for never giving Leon his jacket back when reaching the freezer section of the island. At least I know better for my next Professional S+ attempt. He might be chomped to bits and on his last legs with a couple of rounds in the chamber, clawing to victory, but I’ll be damned if I let him shiver.
