They vary in difficulty, but some foes rank among the trickiest challenges the Pet Battle scene has to offer. One such enemy, The Grand Master, may be small in stature, but his skills in battle make him a formidable opponent, even for a seasoned Pet Battler.

This guide will instruct you where to find and how to defeat Patchu, The Grand Master. It will go over the easiest strategy for farming the fight and recommend certain pet compositions that meet the criteria of the Family Battler achievements.
Where To Find The Grand Master
The Grand Master is a young Tuskarr namedPatchu, who can be found at13, 49 in The Azure Span. He is a Master Pet Trainer and is consideredone of Dragonflight’s most difficult pet battles.
His team is strong and well-balanced, capable of exploiting weaker compositions, so you will need some powerful pets to bring him down. Beating him is one of the conditions needed to complete theBattle of the Dragon Islesachievement.
Alongside being the subject of a World Quest, Patchu is one of the opponents needed for the tenFamily Battler of the Dragon Islesachievements, requiring you to beat him whilefeaturing a team of only one type.
These meta achievements require you to use afull team of level 25 Battle Pets. Due to having higher strength, you should also be usingRare qualitypets.
Patchu’s pets are onlyEpicin quality, which means that while they havegreater stats than yours, they do not come with any of the strong passives that a Legendary battle pet possesses. This means popular strategies, such as single high-damage hits, can still be effective. His three pets are:
Evanescence
Leap
The Idol can cause issues by usingDeflectionto avoid all incoming damage, and his Tiger Cub hits very hard, so a strategy revolving around removing the Idol from play and spending as little time fighting the Tiger Cub will be effective.
All the following strategies focus on utilising easy-to-acquire pets without enforcing the use of a specific breed. There may be faster strategies out there, but they may be more difficult to pull off.
Best Overall Team For Battling The Grand Master
Despite Patchu being a tough opponent,he is susceptible to strong Elemental damage, and the Christmas pets are an excellent matchup against him.
Father Winter’s Helpercan effectively solo the fight, and throwing in aWinter’s Little Helperwill ensure your victory, all while leaving your third slot open for any pet training you may want to do.
Both pets are very cheap to acquire from the Auction House and should be your go-to strategy for farming this encounter.

Ice Lance
This strategy will count for theHumanoid Battler of the Dragon Islesachievement, so justslot in any Humanoid petinto your last slot.
Best Aquatic Team For Battling The Grand Master
This fight is tough for Aquatic types, and it will be hard for any strategy to bring down Patchu in a low number of turns. However, the following composition will reliably win, albeit slowly.
The Sandclaw Sunshell will eventually beat the Tiger Cub, but it will take a few turns and is slightly susceptible to crits. Other good pets for the fight include Penguins, who can use their Ice Lance to somewhat mimic the previous strategy.
Best Beast Team For Battling The Grand Master
Beast pets have high power, thanks to their passive whichincreases their damage when below half health, and there are a few options to try out against Patchu.
Being able todestroy the Anubisath Idol in only two turnsis great and leaves you free to whittle down the rest of The Grand Master’s team without much fuss. TheInfernal Pyreclawis exceptionally strong across both PvE and PvP, so it’s a great pet to invest in.

You can replace theFeline FamiliarwithSable, depending on which is easier to acquire, as both can be purchased from the Auction House.
Best Critter Team For Battling The Grand Master
While Critters tend to struggle in these types of fights, there are a couple of great pets that match up well against Patchu. BothCrispinandVoid-Scarred Beetleare pets thatcan utilise non-critter attacks to defeat their foesand are generically good pets against a high number of enemies.
While staples such asSnailsandRabbitscan also do a job here, it’s always worth expanding your pet collection with other viable strategies.
TheDecaying Mawratcan be swapped for theScurrying Mawrat.
Best Dragonkin Team For Battling The Grand Master
Thankfully, there are quite a few Dragonkin with access toElementalmoves, which in combination withDragonkin dealing extra damage to Magic types, means you can hit two of Patchu’s pets for super effective damage.
Anubisath Idol hits very hard withCrush, so getting him out of the way quickly is important. There are a few alternatives to the suggested strategy, but they mainly rely on difficult-to-obtain pets, such as theAnima Wyrmling.

TheDragonhawk Hatchlingscan be swapped for either theGoldenorBluevarieties. TheWild Crimson Hatchlingcan be exchanged for theCrimson Whelping, which can be bought from the Auction House.
Best Elemental Team For Battling The Grand Master
Elementals do well against The Grand Master, withElementium BoltexploitingAnubisath Idoland some strong damage over time to deal with the remaining enemies.Most of these strategies rely on applying Burn effectsand then dealing increased damage withConflagrate, so feel free to experiment if you can’t get hold of these specific pets.

TheElementium Geodecan be switched for theCrimson Geode, which can be caught inDeepholm.
Best Flying Team For Battling The Grand Master
Most Flying teams will use theIkkypet. Being able to destroy a pet with theBlack Claw and Flockcombo has always been useful in PvE pet battling, and most of the viable strategies for defeating Patchu will utilise it. Feel free to use someMoths, as they are excellent at avoiding damage, albeit a bit slow.

Best Magic Team For Battling The Grand Master
Magic pets can avoid taking large bursts of damage thanks to their passive, which means there are a decent amount of compositions open to you.
TheCourt Scribecan be swapped for any of the Magical book pets, and does most of the heavy lifting, before the PvP favourite; Anomalus, even comes into play.
Best Mechanical Team For Battling The Grand Master
Mechanicals are some of the strongest pets in the game, and theIron Starletteis a top performer in an already competitive family. Being able to practically one-shot pets with aSupercharged Wind-Upgives it amazing value, and you’ll be able to defeat Patchu with only two specific pets. Just throw in any max-level Mechanical in your third slot.

Inflation
Luckily, theFragment of Angerpet has a great matchup against Patchu, and you should be able to run this two-pet strategy. You can also replicate the earlierCall Darknessopener with aCursed Birman, which allows you to easily eliminate theAnubisath Idol.
Other strong pets, such asBlightbreath,can help other compositions work, but both of these pets should be very cheap on the Auction House, so try to run this if you can.
