Vlad Tepes - otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Dracula - is the second of three playable characters inNadir, unlockable after only a few runs as Jeanne d’Arc. The two characters' play styles couldn’t be more different; unlike Jeanne, Vlad doesn’t have very many strong attacks or defenses. What he does have, though, are an unmatched arsenal of status effects.

Vlad relies on two main mechanics to defeat his enemies in Nadir; his heavy use of Bleeding and Decay force his enemies to take damage passively throughout the fight, and he relies on Devouring damage to keep himself going.

Vlad has arguably theweakest starting deck in the game, with little to let him put his strengths to good use. This makes it important for him tofight as many battles early in the run as possibleto expand his arsenal.

One important thing to note about Vlad’s basic cards is thatthe colors are reversed;abilities that would be Blue for Jeanne and Hernan are Red for Vlad, and vice versa. This gives Vlad a different tempo against certain enemies, as he’ll betriggering effects in a different orderthan the other characters.

Devouring abilitiesheal the attacker, but only by the amount dealt to the target’s HP; damage to Armor doesn’t count!

When building a deck for Vlad, prioritize cards that inflict Bleedingfirst, especially if they have Stealth. The more stacks of Bleeding you may build up on your opponent, the more damage they’ll take after performing an action. If there aren’t any good Bleeding cards available,go for Decay instead.

Bleeding causes a character tolose HP every time they take an action. Decay causes them totake extra damage when attacked, hitting Armor first if the character has any.

Vlad struggles defensively, so you’ll need to use Devouring damage to heal mid-battle. Try toprime any Devouring attacks with Seal or Dragon Call, or tosteal buffs from your opponent.
