It was introduced to the franchise in the sixth Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime series, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS. Players can combine cards on-the-go to special summon link monsters, allowing you to utilize any of your monsters on the field.

You don’t need to work too hard to incorporate Link Monsters into your deck, as there typically isn’t too much work required to link summon monsters. Versatile, these monsters will allow you to combine your monsters into more powerful monsters, and you can even use those monsters to link summon even stronger ones. The first line of a link monster’s descriptionwill detail the conditions of the cards being consumed to link summon it. Less powerful link monsters will be less picky and accept any sort of monster. Other link monsters may have more complicated conditions. A powerful card may require that you use 3+ normal monsters to link summon, andthat condition must be met even if the link value of the consumed cards surpasses the link value of the summoned creature.
This may sound complicated; just know thateach card has a link value that will also be its minimum to be summoned and its value when summoning. Also, know thateach link monster will require certain conditionsfrom the cards you use to summon it. Overall, aim toadd link monsters to your deck that you could reasonably reach the link value of.
Link Summoning A Monster
When in the field, link summoning couldn’t be easier. Remember that unless otherwise stated, each regular monster and token provides a link value of one. So, to summon a link monster with a link value of two,you’ll need to sacrifice two monsters on your field.When you’ve chosen the monsters to sacrifice,they are removed from the board, and your chosen link monster will get summoned onto the field. It is that easy.
When summoning link monsters with a higher link value,you don’t necessarily need to sacrifice more monsters. If you have two link monsters on the field, both with a link value of two,you could summon a link monster with a link value of four. In turn, both link value two monsters will be consumed to summon them. However, this won’t typically be how it shakes out, as link monsters with a link value of four may have more complicated requirements from the consumed monsters.

In this scenario, a link value four monster may require 3+ monsters, one of which must be a dragon type. Even if one of the value two monsters is a dragon type, the link value four monster requires at least three monsters to be summoned.This could mean that, when being able to sacrifice three monsters, the link value of the chosen monsters will be higher than the link value of the link monster, and that’s okay.
This system allows you to special summon stronger and stronger monsters as powerful link monsters of the field can be combined with others to reach new heights. When synthesizing your deck, be sure toread the summon specifics of the link monsters. Ensure that you can not only realistically summon them but that you cangrow all the way up to a link value six monster,which is themaximum link value of a monster. Having a link value six monster on the field will be huge for your battle.
