For Kislev, their big tanky boy Boris Ursus isn’t there. Instead, he has to be unlocked in the campaign first before you may run around as this powerhouse of pain and Slavic strength. It’s not abundantly clear at first, but he’s locked behind the Frozen Falls quest battle, which takes a few extra steps to activate. For those still struggling to find this bear-loving barbarian and his special mission, here’s how you can unlock Boris Ursus in Total War: Warhammer 3.
How To Unlock The Frozen Falls Quest Battle
First things first, old Boris is locked behind aunique quest battle for Kislev. Known as theFrozen Falls Battle, it’s only something you can do with eitherKatarina and her Ice CourtorKostaltyn and hisGreat Orthodoxy. It requires a few extra stepsin the Realms Of Chaoscampaign to get it going, but if you’re experienced enough with the game or you have this guide, it shouldn’t be too hard.
For the first step, you’ll need to control the following settlements:

Erengrad
Praag
Once they’re captured by the two previously mentioned factions of the Ice Court and the Great Orthodoxy, you’ll need tohold them for a minimum of 10 turns. Once you do that the quest battle will unlock almost immediately and it can be tackled whenever you like. Though you’ll need tokeep control of those captured settlementsin order for it to remain active.
Once you have a sizeable force ready, start the fight either byapproaching the mission markeror just using theteleport buttonoption in the mission menu. Though be warned, make sure you can afford to send extra forces in, the last thing you want is to return to the main map with a damaged army and a Chaos incursion on your doorstep.

A selling point for Boris Ursus is that he comes with a50 percent discount on upkeep for War Bear Riders. He also gets theShard Bladewhich has a direct damage spell, a 10 percent recruitment discount and+12 against Large Foes. There’s also theArmor of Ursunwhich gives him a chunky passive increase to base and armor-piercing damage if his hit points drop below 50 percent.

Frozen Falls Quest Battle Walkthrough
The battle atFrozen Falls Quest Battleitself is not too difficult. There are a lot of chaos forces dotted around andthree Chaos Sorcerorsthat need to be killed in order to win the battle so there’s a bit of running around to do. Thankfully there’s a lot ofhigh ground in the middle, so use this to your advantage and range out some of the more hazardous units that are hanging around. They won’t all rush at once, so take your time and don’t tire out your army.
A good tip is tomove your force as one large unit, that keeps your force power higher when it comes to engagements. Though ensure to keep your cavalry ready on the wings to peel apartPink Horrorsas their ranged blasts can wear down your infantry. This fights a marathon, not a sprint.

Total War: Warhammer 3 uses ahidden mechanicwhen it comes to how it calculates force when trying to break through enemy lines. Essentially, thestronger and more numerous the forcehitting one part of a battleline, thequicker the enemy routesand creates a gap. It works well for Boris as a lot of his tactics come down tohit-hard, hit-first.
Thethree sorcerersare hanging around in thecenter, top right, andtop left areasof the map. So there’s a bit of walking to do. A good trick for this fight is tobring a couple of Little Groms. You can use them toaggro the sorcerersand other static units from range and make them come to you. Turning the whole battle into adefensive holdoutif you’re better at turtling instead of being offensive.Tzeentchian reinforcementswith aSoul Grinderwillappear from the southas you push along the main ridge in the center. So have a rear guard ready withAnti-Large or some burly bear cavalryto slow down its progress.

As you get close to the last sorcerer, more reinforcements will pop in from the top left of the mapright next to them. It’s agroup of Pink Horrors, so line up a gun line to shred them or just charge in your cavalry to route them right back out of the map again before they have a chance to form up firing lines. Once the last sorcerer is dispatched, victory is yours.
Victory Rewards
Once the battle is finishedBoris Ursus will unlock instantlyfor the remainder of your campaign. A window will pop up after the battle and you’ll be given one of four choices. Boris can reappear as his own faction of friendly Ursun Revivalists in a settlement gifted by you, or he can be absorbed straight into your forces. So you may either have a strong ally doing their own thing nearby or use this legendary Lord to cause havoc with his own doom stack, or toguard any vital settlementswhilst your main armies run amok.
As a side note, as anextra rewardfor your battle prowess, Boris will also beunlocked for the Realm of Chaos Campaign and the multiplayer. He’s quite a tanky Lord with somegreat buffsthat make him steamroll pretty quickly, so he’s definitely worth unlocking if you haven’t got around to it yet. He’s alsoavailable in theImmortal Empirescampaignregardless, so you can test him out there if you’re unsure about going to the effort in Realms Of Chaos.
