Monster Slayer might be one of the most self-explanatory side quest names inThe Witcher 3.This short quest takes place in Kaer Morhen, by the large lake to the fortress' north. It has Geralt investigating a trail of drowner corpses left behind by a mysterious monster that does indeed slay other monsters.

How To Start Monster Slayer

You will need to look fora drowner’s corpsefloating in the reedsnorth of the Lakeside Shackthat you visit with Lambert inThe Final Trial.Geralt can tell at first glance that the monster was not killed by any of the witchers but instead by a monster.

While not unheard of, the trail of corpses left by the mysterious creature warrants further investigation. Follow the bodies north,using Witcher Sensesif necessary. They will lead you to the lake’s east bank. Look out fora cave.The monster awaits within.

Searching The Cave

You will comeface to face with the culprit, a rock trollthat will immediately attempt to kill Geralt. It fightsidentically to other rock trollsand shares the same vulnerability toOgroid Oil and Axii.

You canloot the troll for a Cave Troll Liver,an alchemical ingredient that is used in creatingseveral blade oils including Superior Ogroid Oil and Superior Cursed Oil.

Geralt will decide tosearch the caveafter clearing it of pests. You are looking foran old letter inside a half-buried boat.The quest will end once you pick it up.

The letter is a callback tothe first game,where Kaer Morhen was attacked by Salamandra in a plot tosteal the recipes used for witcher mutations.
