In a world of mutated animals,Biomutantgives you a wide range of options for character customization, from fur to fangs. Still, in this open-world action role-playing game, the section you spend the most time on won’t be the customization, but it might be with the puzzles.

One of the most complicated types of puzzles in Biomutant is the cable puzzle, which a lot of people don’t understand at all. A gridded terminal with three cables and a whole lot of X’s, Y’s, and Z’s in both yellow and white can make for a confusing puzzle, but ultimately, once you understand what you need to solve the puzzle, you will start solving them in record times.
How To Understand The Cable Puzzle
The cable puzzles can be boiled down to a math problem that you need to solve.
When you first reach a cable puzzle, you will see a string of grey letters at the bottom of your screen - this will be what you are trying to achieve. For example, the string might haveXXXXXXorXXYYYZor any combination of the three letters available on the terminal.
For the stringXXYYYZ, you want to have all of your cables connected to a total of twoXs, twoYs, and twoZs. However, you aren’t just finding these six letters around the terminal and adding them up, as with a lot of the inputs on the terminal, there are two colours of the letters,whiteandyellow.
Awhite letter will be added to your totalstring, and ayellow number will minus the letterfrom your string, which complicates things a little and turns it into more of a puzzle, along with theadded challenge of only having a set number of movesthat you may make with the cables. However, this is the basic idea of what the cable puzzle is and will allow you to understand how to solve the puzzles on your own.
How To Solve The Cable Puzzles
One method that you can use to simplify the puzzle is tofind out what you don’t want to be plugged inrather than what you need to have connected to the cables. The best example of this is with the picture above of theXXYYZZpuzzle.
Instead of looking for what adds up toXXYYZZ, simplyadd everything together, so you create one long string that looks likeXXXXYYYZZZ.
Make sure that you areaddingall of thewhite lettersand thensubtractingall of theyellow letters.
Now that we have the total, we are going totake away what we needtofind out what we don’t need, so ourtotal (XXXXYYYZZZ)minusXXYYZZwill give usXXYZ.
XXYZ is a smaller set of letters for us to work with and will make this a lot easier.
This specific terminal has ten different places where we can put our cables for it to do something and aswe only have three cables, we canonly connect six of these inputs. So, we need tofind four inputs that we will not be usingfor our cables thatadd up to XXYZ,and we can see that thefour corner lettersareX,X,Y, andZ, which add up to the numbers we don’t need, and so the solution is simply the six inputs in the centre.
Solutions To Cable Puzzles
There are a good number of these cable puzzles in Biomutant and, eventually, you will start running into versions even more challenging than theXXYYZZpuzzle. These are cable challenges where adding them all up and subtracting will give you a more complicated string of letters than the one you started with.
For these, you can try trial and error, as by this point in the game you will haveranked up your intellecta fair amount to give you a good chance of getting the right answer. Alternatively, there are thesolutions to most of these harder puzzles below.
If you were to add all of these letters together and then subtract theXYYYZ, you would get a string ofXXYYYYYZZZZZZZZ, which makes the puzzle ridiculously difficult and one that cannot be solved using this method. To solve it without help, you would have to use trial and error or come up with another method/equation to solve it.
This cable puzzle is meant to be more confusing than anything elsewith only X’s on the terminal, it can take a little time to work out where your cables are meant to go.
Now you have all the knowledge to complete the different cable challenges in Biomutant, you will fly through the rest of the game. There are also two other types of puzzles calledcircuit boardandrotation, which are generally easier than the cable puzzles, meaning your main worry will come with the rest of the expansive open-world game with all of its combat and exploration waiting for you to enjoy.
