Eugene isCassette Beasts' suave fella with a chip on his shoulders. His chip’s relatable - it involves zombie-like landowners. Many of us can appreciate that, even if Cassette Beasts takes it the full nine yards and makes the landowners literal zombies. No wonder Eugene is a man on a mission.

If you’re on a mission too, and your mission involves romancing this headstrong lad to get the most out of your character’s personal storyline, then consider itourmission to tell you precisely what needs to be done to make it happen.
Meet Eugene
It sort of goes without saying, but the first thing you’ll need to do to romance Eugene in Cassette Beasts is to meet the guy. Unlike some companions, this is super simple - justprogress the main story a bitalongside Kayleigh, and you’ll bump into him soon enough. We had barely begun to explore New Wirral when he first showed up for us in Harbourtown.
You’ll learn aboutEugene’s quest against the ‘landowners’and be able to tag along with him on what is essentially an introduction to his companion quest. Accepting will send Kayleigh back to the Gramophone cafe, but don’t worry;even though you may only have one companion at a time, the rest can always be taken out with you from the cafe.We figured we’d mention this since for most players, Eugene’s only the second partner you’ll meet.
Act(ing) On Your Best Behavior
You’ll get the’Acting On Your Best Behavior’quest through meeting Eugene. Going off to join him in taking down aLandkeeper Officewill provide a momentary resolution, butthere are several more Landkeeper Offices throughout New Wirralthat need to be rooted out before you can reach the quest’s conclusion.
Whether you do this with Eugene or not doesn’t seem to matter for the purposes of romancing him, sinceyou won’t get the first of the five relationship stars with him until the end of his questanyway. That said, we still advise taking him with you for these if it’s not too much trouble, since you’ll get more Eugene-centric storytelling if he’s the one fighting alongside you against his personal nemeses.
Plus, you’ll want to partner up with him somewhat often, regardless. The other important component for romance isgoing through multiple conversations at campsites/the cafe tableby choosing to ‘rest’, which often triggers dialogue sequences. When Eugene asks questions, just go with your gut; there are no right or wrong answers, just different flavors. Just, you know, be nice!

Mammon, Robindam, Romance
You can take the remainder of Eugene’s quest at your leisure, but note that even if you don’t intend to romance him,you must complete it as part of the main storylineat some point. While you’re exploring, you’ll find the various Landkeeper Offices still at-large, as well as a fair number of roaming Landkeepers who will challenge you to fights.

Once all five have been tackled (remember, you handled the first one with Eugene as part of his intro), the game informs you of whereLandkeeper Headquartersis located. It should get marked on your map, if memory serves, but in any case it’snorth of the graveyard(because of course it would be).
You’ll do battle againstArchangel Mammon, one of Cassette Beasts’ main bosses, once you’re inside. Like all Archangels, Mammon has high HP and hits fairly hard. The biggest threat, in our experience, is theup to two Jormungolds that Mammon will call upon as alliesat any given time.
For that reason,we recommend making sure Eugene’s Clocksley has remastered into Robindam, an excellent crowd-clearer who can keep the focus on the boss for you.
Once ‘Acting On Your Best Behavior’ is finished, your single star value with Eugene will be able torise to two, three, four, and ultimately fivethrough conversations. Keep him with you, battling and traveling as your partner, and rest whenever you need to do so.
Not every conversation will unlock a new star level, but you may be surprised to learn how rapidly itdoestranspire.
At five stars, the next dialogue or two will lead you toa date with Eugeneas a culmination of your mutual affections. Cute stuff!
