Those delving into everythingThe Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdomhas to offer will surely come across the new Gloom mechanic. Gloom is effectively a stacking debuff that reduces your max Hearts the more you’re exposed to it. The Gloom is mostly found within theDepths of Hyrule.
Under the earth, monsters have become infected with the Gloom, with this corruption speaking to the ground. Every time Link stands in the Gloom-blighted patches, your Hearts will deplete, and eventually, you will die if you let your HP reach zero. Thankfully, there are several ways to combat this.

Activate Lightroots To Remove Gloom
There arethree main ways to remove Gloom build-upand recover your lost Hearts.
The first and easiest is to make a beeline to thenearest Lightroot.Activating a Lightroot for the first time will bathe Link in light and cleanse him of any Gloom. If you visit an already-activated Lightroot, you will also be cleansed from Gloom.

Doing thiswon’t restore the Hearts you lost to Gloom, but it unblocks them, meaning you can eat something to recover your Hearts to full.
Travel To The Surface To Remove Gloom
The second way to remove Gloom is tofast-travel to the surface. This might not be the best course of action for you, especially if you’re determined to keep going in the Depths and don’t want to lose your progress.
Fast traveling to the surface removes all your Gloom, but it also means you won’t be able to return to where you just left. The only way to fast-travel to locations in the Depths is by going to anactive Lightroot.
Eat Sunny Meals To Remove Gloom
Arguably the best way to explore the Depths and remove Gloom is toprepare and eat several meals that have the name Sunny in them. The best way to do this is to cook meals specifically withSundelionsand whatever else you throw into the cooking pot.
You can also useSun Pumpkinto make sunny meals. Sun Pumpkins are unlocked once you complete Homegrown in Hateno. This is a side quest that will unlock after you complete the Hatenoquests related to the mayoral election. Sun Pumpkins can only be purchased in Hateno Village or grown from Uma’s Garden.

Eating a Sunny-type meal willremove a certain amount of Gloom, and let you restore your Hearts to full. To increase how much Gloom is healed, use moreSundelionand Sun Pumpkins.

Prevent Gloom Damage With The Depths Armor Set
The Depths armor setis a great way to prevent any potential Gloom damage, as it essentiallyadds another blue Heart that can be filled with Gloom, rather than taking one of your own. This armor set is made of the following pieces.
You can find the Tunic of the Depths first bytrading with a Bargainer Statue in the Depths. The other two pieces of the set are gained from subsequent Bargainer Statues, but you can get the Tunic fairly early.
The blue Hearts provided by the Depths armor setregenerate over time;you don’t have to use any consumables to get this Heart back.
Prevent Gloom Damage With Dark Clumps
The Bargainer Statue also offers an item called theDark Clumpfor ten Poes. While this item is used to upgrade the Depths armor set – which, incidentally, should beprioritized over using them in meals– you can cook up Elixirs and food using Dark Clumps that will increase your resistance to Gloom.
Although it’s a bit expensive to make we suggest making theGloom Resistance Elixir, with one Dragon Horn, Fresh Milk, and three Dark Clumps. This will last for 30 minutes, making it useful for late-game battles.
Similarly to Sunny meals, you need tocook something using a Dark Clumpto give it the effect of Gloom Resistance. The more Dark Clumps you use, the longer the resistance time will be. This follows the same basic recipes as those that use Sundelions (or Sun Pumpkins). Overall, just use it like a normal ingredient without combining any other effects.
