Eternatus VMAX has always been an essential part of the Metagame of thePokemon TCGbecause of its easy setup and the damage it can deal, but it has a big problem: the Fighting-type-based decks. But then, out of nowhere, someone thought it was a great idea to mix Eternatus VMAX with Galarian Weezing, making it popular and relevant.

With this deck, Eternatus can fill the bench with Dark-type Pokemon while Weezing is in the Active Spot, poisoning everyone on its path. This deck offers you constancy, a quick setup, and a lot of damage. Also, it’s pretty fun to play!

Eternatus VMAX Deck Key Cards
Here are the most important cards you need to keep in mind at the moment of building this deck:
Eternatus VMAX
Let’s first talk aboutEternatus VMAX,which has anabilitynamedEternal Zone.Eternal Zone lets youexpand your bench to 8 spots but only if you only have Dark-type Pokémon in play.When you do this, you can’t play any Pokemon that isn’t a Dark-type. Of course, this ability works withEternatus VMAX’s attack, Dread End,whichdeals 30 damage plus 30 for every Dark-type Pokemon in play,including yours and your opponent’s.
Koffing and Galarian Weezing
ButEternatus VMAX wouldn’t shinein this deck if it isn’t withGalarian Weezing.This card is excellent for negating any strategy that relies on using Basic Pokemon’s abilities, such as Palkia VSTAR, Arceus VSTAR, or even Mew VMAX!
Galarian Weezinghas an ability namedNeutralizing Gas, which switches the ability of every of your opponent’s Pokemon to Neutralizing Gas, but only if Galarian Weezing is in the Active Spot. In other words, if your Galarian Weezing is in the Active Spot,all of your opponent’s Pokemon will not have any ability.
That’s not all about this card; it has a move namedSevere Poison, whichpoisons the Active Pokemon of your opponent and puts four damage counters instead of one.Again, in other words, Weezing will be dealing 40 damage on every turn when the conventional poisons only deal 10.
To put Weezing into play, you have to have aKoffing. Koffing is great because as soon as you have it, you will not be wasting any card trying to find a Weezing. After all, it has a move namedAscension, whichlets you look for a Weezing in your deck to evolve it.Pretty simple and easy to use!
Boost Shake
Alternatively,if you don’t have Energy cards to use Ascension, you can useBoost Shake,which lets you search a Weezing in your deck to evolve Koffing. After using Boost Shake, your turn ends.
You can only use Boost Shake if you are on your first turn or are trying to use it on a Pokemon which got into play in that same turn.
Forest Seal Stone
But if you don’t have Energy cards to use Ascension and you don’t have Boost Shake, don’t worry; you may use theForest Seal Stone. This cardlets you have a VSTAR Power without having a VSTAR Pokemon, and it’s pretty simple to use. You only have to attach it to any Pokemon and then use it.
The Forest Seal Stone has a VSTAR ability named Star Alchemy, whichlets you pick any card of your deck.After using it, it gets useless, so you can either change it for another object or leave it attached to your Pokemon.
So, with the Forest Seal Stone, you’ll look for a Boost Shake or a Dark-type Energy card, and then, you can evolve Koffing into Weezing.
Crobat V
Crobat Vwill be vital in this deck, as itprovides a lot of cards from your deck through its ability, Dark Asset,which lets you draw cards until having seven on your hand.
The best way to use Dark Asset is when you only have a few cards. Don’t waste Dark Asset when you have five or six cards in your hand!
Some people also useCrobat VMAXin this deck as an alternative option because it also poisons and lets you do a free switch, so you can consider using it instead of Radiant Hisuian Sneasler.
Dark Patch
Dark Patch is a must in this deck(and in any other Dark-type deck) becauseit lets you draw a Dark Energy card from the Discard Pile and attach it to any of your Benched Pokemon.Dark Patch is essential in this deck because there will be times when you are trying to build an Eternatus VMAX but don’t have Energy cards available!
Alternatively, you can also use theOrdinary Rod, whichlets you draw two Pokemon and two Energy cards from the Discard Pile.
This card gets good only if the opponent has knocked your Weezing out before Eternatus VMAX is ready to get on the field.
Switches and Hiding Dark Energy
It’s always good to have someSwitcheson your deckin case you want to bring Eternatus into actionbut your opponent hasn’t knocked Weezing out yet.Alternatively, you may opt for usingHiding Dark Energy.If you attach this card to Weezing,it’ll not have Retreat Cost, so you can freely switch it!
Marnie
Marnieis also important becauseit makes you and your opponent shuffle your hand and send it back to the deck.Then, you candraw five cards while your opponent will draw only four. Remember that the main idea of this deck is to have as many Benched Pokemon as possible in a short amount of time. You’ll also be using Evolution Incense if you are unlucky enough to don’t have an Eternatus VMAX after using Dark Asset plus Marnie.
Roxanne
Roxanne is always a mustin these decks because it’s a great way to get a lot of cards whiledisabling any potential strategy from your opponent.Roxanne makes you and your opponentshuffle their hand and put them on the deck.Then,you can draw six cardswhileyour opponent will draw only two.
Eternatus VMAX Deck Strategy
Try to look for a Koffing and evolve it into Weezing.Then, send it to the field andattach a Dark-type Energy card to itto start poisoning every Pokemon you want. Meanwhile,try to find a Crobat V and an Eternatus V; use Crobat to useDark Assetand find more cards, and evolve Eternatus V into Eternatus VMAX.
This isn’t necessary because this card can get into your Prize Cards, but if you can,as soon as you have a Weezing on the Active Spotand are preparing Eternatus V to attack,try to look for a Radiant Hisuian Sneasler and put it on your bench.
It’s important to useGalarian Zigzagoonproperly. Zigzagoon has an ability namedHeadbutt Tantrum,which makes it deal 10 damage to any of your opponent’s Pokemon as soon as it gets into play.Try to use this 10 damage on your opponent’s V, VSTAR, and VMAX Pokemon.
If you are playing a mirror match or are against a deck that burns, paralyzes, or poisons your Pokemon, you have to search for a Big Parasol and attach it to Weezing.
To protect Weezing, you canuse Stadium Cards like Temple of Sinnoh, which nullifies all the extra effects of all the Special Energy Cards of your opponent,or use Escape Rope and Boss Ordersto deal damage and start claiming Prize Cards.
As soon as your opponent’s Pokemon are weakand you have accumulated8 Dark-type Pokemon on your bench, it’s time toswitch Weezing for Eternatusand start knocking out every Pokemon of your opponent.
Eternatus VMAX Deck Common Threats
The main problem you’re able to have when using this deck isif Weezing falls before having many Pokemon in your benchor having Eternatus VMAX prepared to attack. At least you can alwayslook for another Koffing through a Quick Ball(or the Forest Seal Stone if you haven’t used it yet) andsend it to the field.Then, try to look for a Dark Energy card and attach it to Koffing.
Another issueyou can have during your strategy with Galarian Weezing is ifthe opponent uses an Escape Rope or a Boss Orders.That’s whyyou should always have a Switchor an Escape Rope in your hand.
Other than that,it’s pretty hard to counter Galarian Weezing,so you won’t have many problemsunless you see yourself against a Fighting-type based deck.In that case,try to have the Radiant Hisuian Sneasler on your benchand stall it with Weezing.
