Apex Legends - Selecting an Orientation Match in the game mode tab

All Legends are now grouped into specific Class types, and a Team Deathmatch mode has been added permanently to the game. Alongside this, Orientation Matches put new players up against bots in a training-style game of Battle Royale, simulating an approachable version of the proper Battle Royale experience in Apex.

What Is An Orientation Match In Apex Legends

Orientation Matches are a new way for first-time players of Apexto get an idea of what’s in store, offering a low-stakes example of what the proper Battle Royale mode will be like. If this is the first time you’rebooting the game up with a level one account, you’ll have to clear Training, as normal, but then you will have toplay Orientation Matches until you are allowedto drop into the main game or other modes.

Everything in this mode willprepare you as best it can for a real match, to some extent. These matches put you into a game of Battle Royale, buta lot of the lobby is populated with bots, with four or more other squads being other players.Everything plays outthe same as a normal match, it’s just a lot more beginner friendly with fewer people in the lobby who can stomp all over you. The bots, bless their robotic hearts, really do try, but it’s obvious when you run into a squad made up of other players.Bot characters will be shown as BOTand have randomly-generated names.

It seems that if youwin two Orientation Matches, you will not be able to do them any more.

The bots will fight each other, and some will do better than others, to the point where they can have Purple shields and lots of ammo and healing. In Orientation, you’ll take out other squads, plan with your team on where to move, try to find strategic points to ambush, and so on.This modelets you learn the basics, take part in some firefights and get a good gripon all the game has to offer. As an introduction to a game as intimidating as Apex Legends, it’s a breath of fresh air.

You don’t get many goes in Orientation Matches, however. In our experience, after we won two matches in a row, we were able to go ahead and play the rest of the modes. From this point, you will have graduated in the eyes of the game to let you drop into the proper Battle Royale matches with everyone else, and you won’t be able to play any more Orientation Matches unless you join a friend who invites you to their session.

How To Join An Orientation Match

This mode isexclusive to people who are playing the game for the first timeon a fresh account. To join one, you must be on a fresh account, meaningyou can’t do these modes if you’ve ever played in the Battle Royale on that account. Before the Revelry update, after clearing Training you could launch straight into the Battle Royale proper as Trios or Duos, but this is no longer the case.First, drop into the Training Mode, which will be the only option available to you when you boot it up.

After Training, there will now be an option in the mode selection that says Orientation Match. All the other game modes, other than Training and Firing Range, will be greyed out, and a message will inform you thatto play them, you must complete Orientation Matches. Select the mode and wait for it to load up. Pick your Legend as normal and then have your Jump Master fire you from the Dropship into King’s Canyon for the big win.

Who Can Join An Orientation Match

if you have friends who play Apex, you can invite them to your party beforehandand then load into an Orientation Match with them. This can be done either with a brand new account or you can join them even if you have a level 500 account.

Otherwise, only people who are booting up Apex for the first time can play these matches,as it is a requirement to unlock the Battle Royale mode and drop into the real action. This does meansome lobbies might have some extremely capable people in them, but since it is a mode reserved for new players, it is unlikely you will find people outside of your skill level.
