Like other past debuts, Lapras is coming into Pokemon Unite with a unique set of moves and abilities, providing you with a brand-new Defender experience. With a kit that doesn’t quite resemble any that have previously been introduced, we’ve put together a complete guide to help you master Pokemon Unite’s latest Defender.
When To Pick Lapras
Like other Pokemon that fall into the Defender category, Laprasexcels when it comes to tanking opposing attackswithout the risk of being easily knocked out. For Lapras, this comes with the added bonus of possessinga handful of attacks that can deal significant damageto the opponent.
Lapras’s passive ability,Shell Armor, greatly adds to this Pokemon’s sustainability, reducing the damage of incoming attacks if they exceed a specific threshold.Additionally, Lapras’s boosted Basic Attackprovides you withHP regeneration, again, adding to the bulkiness of this Pokemon.

With this Pokemon possessing the ability to take on multiple enemy attacks, you will always want to be playing in the presence of allies when opting to play as Lapras. For this reason, always play ineither the Top or Bottom lanes of the map, constantly pairing yourself with other Pokemon allies.
All in all, choose to play as Lapras if you’re looking for a relatively standard Defender experience, requiring youto be on thefront line of your teamif you wish to make the most of this Pokemon’s great sustainability.

That being said, Lapras doeshave the potential to make some meaningful offensive plays, possessing different attacks that can pack a serious punch when used correctly.
Lapras: Perish Song Build
Although Lapras is a Defender, this build takes advantage of this Pokemon’s ability to deal large amounts of damage in team fights.
With Lapras’s high sustainability stats, use this build to consistently deal damage in larger team fightswithout having to retreat or get knocked out.

Move Selection
For this build, start with pickingPerish Song,an area-of-effect attack that can be used three times. When an enemy is hit by all three uses of this attack, they receive additional damage following the third attack.
Enemies hit by Perish Song will have an indicator on the lower portion of their HP bar. If their HP falls below this threshold following Perish Song’s third use, they will instantly be knocked out.

Pair this withIce Beam,a move that attacks in a line, dealing damage to enemies and leaving behind an icy path in its area of effect. Enemies who stand in this icy areawill take damage over time and eventually freeze, leaving them stunnedfor a brief time.
Additionally, when Lapras travels over this icy path, they will have increased movement speed. On the other hand, enemies that do so will have their movement speed decreased.
To successfully combine these two moves, use Ice Beam to damage opponents and slow themwith the freeze effect that it applies.Follow this with Perish Song, allowing you to easily approach and attack an opponent with all three charges of this attack.
When performed properly, this willdeal significant damage to your targets, often causing them to get knocked out by Perish Song’s execute mechanic.
Held Items
For this build, you’ll want touse Held Items that boost Lapras’s Special Attack stats, making it easier to deal damage and set up Perish Song’s execute mechanic. This includes Held Items like theChoice SpecsandSlick Spoon.
Pair this witha Held Item that boosts your HPand sustainability. TheFocus BandHeld Item proves to work extremely well for this role.
Battle Item
For this build, it is recommended that you use a Battle Item that will improve your sustainability. ThePotionBattle Item is a good fit for this build, allowing you to quickly heal yourself if your HP falls too lowin a battle.

Lapras: Water Pulse Build
This build fully takes advantage of Lapras’s massive potential toregenerate HP and outlast opponents in larger team fights.
Although this build doesn’t excel when it comes to damage output, Lapras’s ability to take on countless opposing attacks proves to be extremely useful for your team as a whole.
For this build, you’ll want to make sureto selectWater Pulse as your first move. This attack will deal damage in an area around Lapras, with the ability to hit multiple opponents at once.
If this attack hits an enemy when used, the next use of it will deal more damage, hitting opponents in the area multiple times. This chain can be stacked up to three times, or four times once you have acquired Water Pulse +.
Follow this by selectingBubble Beam,an attack that fires in a straight line, damaging any enemies that are in its path and providing you with a shield. Additionally, any enemy hit by this attack will be briefly suspended in a bubble, leaving them unable to act for a short time.
On top of this, there will be several bubbles that appear following the use of this attack, and any other enemies that hit these bubbles will also be suspended and stunned briefly.
These two moves pair with each other extremely well, allowing you to unleash lethal combos on your opponents.
Use Bubble Beam to damage and suspend a group of opponents, leaving them vulnerable and giving you a shield.Follow this with Water Pulse, allowing you to land your attacks, constantly adding to the damage of your following Water Pulses.
For this build, you’ll want to use Held Items that add to Lapras’s overall sustainability. This includes Held Items like theFocus Band and Aeos Cookie. Your third Held Item can beone that adds to your Special Attackstat, like theSp. Attack SpecsandChoice Specs.
There are two different Battle Items that work well with this specific build, each benefiting Lapras differently.
If you’re looking to increase your movement speed, opt for theX-SpeedBattle Item, allowing you to increase your movement speedfor a set time.
If you’d rather add to Lapras’s sustainability, opt for thePotionBattle Item. This will give you a way to instantly restore HP, adding to this Pokemon’s bulk and ability to outlast opponents in battle.
