Negotiation Basics
What Is Negotiation?
While older Persona titles yielded theirpost-battle rewardsin a system of shuffling cards, known as Shuffle Time, P5R has changed the formula.
Now, instead of choosing cards, you’ll benegotiating directly with shadows for additional prizesduring your battles.

There are plenty of things you can earn from negotiations, like additionalyenoritems. These will be inaddition to what you normally earn.
One of the main prizes, though, and arguably the central focus of negotiations, is that asuccessful negotiationafter a battle results inthe shadow joining your stock.

You’llreceive the trophy"I Am Thou…“following your first successful negotiation.
How To Start A Negotiation
Tobegin a negotiationwith a shadow in P5R, you’ll need to rely onelemental weaknessesin battle, orcritical hits.
Early in the game, Morgana teaches you all aboutaffinities, includinghow to knock down a shadowusing anelement to which they areweak.

The process is simple enough if there’s only one shadow in the fight, but if there aremultiple shadows, you’ll need todown each onebefore negotiations can begin.
Even if there are multiple different shadows on the field, you’ll onlynegotiate with one.

Once the shadows have all been downed, you’ll have two choices for how to proceed: commit to performing anAll-Out Attackwith the Phantom Thieves, likely to finish the battle, or choose tonegotiatewith them instead.
During negotiations, you’ll have three things you’re able to ask for:
By selecting eithermoney or items, you’re able tonegotiate a handful of timesin a single negotiation. When the shadow initially gives you the things you’ve asked for, you have the option to tell them thatit’s not enough.
From there, the shadow will eithergive you more money or itemsor will become fed up andget back to its feetto continue the battle.
You cannegotiate multiple times in battles, so continue to down shadows and make them talk if they don’t cooperate the first time.
How To Negotiate With Shadows
Negotiating formoney or itemsis as simple asasking for them. Choose the request from the menu screen during negotiation and watch as the shadows empty their pockets.
Shadows aremore likely to cooperateor givebigger prizesif you have thesame Persona in your stock.
Recruiting new Personas through negotiations, however, requires a bit more effort than just persistence.
You’ll need to answera few questionsthe shadows ask before they yield, though, whatever your request may be. And forget honesty in your answers:tailor your answers to the shadow’s attitude.
Each shadow asks you two questions. You’ll need to getboth correctin order to recruit them.
When you’re in a negotiation, you’ll notice a bubble on screen thatdescribes the shadowin with one of four words.
Shadows in Persona 5 Royal can be:
These adjectivesadvise you on the answers the shadows want to hear.
If youchoose good answers for each question, the shadow will thenjoin your stock. If not, the shadow willget back upto start fighting once again.
