The Witcher 3contract, “The Phantom of Eldberg” is one of the game’s most haunting quests, in a literal sense. It has Geralt investigate a lighthouse gone dark on Ard Skellig. Without its guiding light, ships sailing close to the shore are in danger of running aground or being dashed against cliffs.

This job will have you fighting a small army of wraiths as you investigate the mist-covered lighthouse. These spectral monsters are hardly rare, though their numbers will keep the fight exciting. If you are struggling against them or with searching the lighthouse for clues, this guide will help you.

He is inArinbjorn’s Tavern.

Beat Madman Lugos

Lugos will tell Geralt about the lighthouse if youfight him inThe King Is Dead, Long Live The King.

Investigate The Lighthouse

The lighthouse is hard to miss. You may have paid it a visit if you had chanced upon it.

If you hadpicked up the contract from the notice board or are on the way to Jorund,your first step is to visit Arinbjorn’s tavern. Geralt will be given a frosty welcome by Kori and Kraki, brothers who prefer non-Skelligers out of the tavern.

Jorund, the person responsible for the contract, will see the pair off and invite Geralt for a drink. He willbring the contract upif you had not read it. Geralt will bring it up otherwise. Jorund tells Geralt that a pair of men sent to investigate the island and the lighthouse keeper had gone missing. He needs Geralt to find out what happened.

Investigating The Lighthouse

The lighthouse isfar to the north of Arinbjorn,with several broken bridges between Geralt and it. You will encounter hostilebandits and Ekhidnaon your way there.

Whilewalking to the lighthouseis not a bad idea,taking a boat up northwould be faster. Just be ready for the Ekhidna attacking you.

Once you get to the lighthouse, you will beattacked by specters.Get comfortable fighting them because they will be the only monsters you see during this quest. Greasing your sword withSpecter Oilwould be a prudent decision.

After the first pair are killed, continue toward the lighthouseuntil you see a corpse on the road.Geralt notes that the man had tried and failed to escape the specters.Next, go to the house northeastof the body.

The lighthouse keeper, Mikkjal, is taking shelter inside. The specters had taken a toll on him, leaving him frightened. While he tries to give Geralt useful information, he can only say thatthere is a larger specterby the lighthouse. Geralt will need toinvestigate the lighthouse himself.

Mikkjal willgive Geralt the key to the lighthouse.Make sure to use itbefore you end the questbecause the lighthouse will be inaccessible once it is over.

The lighthouse hasa few containers to lootthat you may miss out on otherwise.

There areonly two things to investigate in the lighthouse.

Markings On The Wall

There isa set of symbolsscratched into the lighthouse’s wall. you may investigate themon the stairsleading to the entrance.

Geralt willidentify the monsterafter interacting with this clue.

Letters To Mikkjal

Searchthe second floor of the lighthousefor apile of letters addressed to Mikkjal.They show that he haddeliberately let ships run agroundfor money.

The lettersare easily missed.Geralt will not know about Mikkjal’s crimes if the letters are not found, affecting the conclusion of the quest.

You canreturn to Mikkjalafter checking the markings. The specter in question isa penitent,more powerful than a normal specter, andunkillable in the mist.

Killing The Penitent

Geralt will have Mikkjal help him kill the penitent. The lighthouse keeper will need tolight the beaconto drive away the mist andrender the penitent vulnerable.If you found the letters,Geralt will bring up Mikkjal’s crimesbefore enlisting his help.

The pair will return to the lighthouse, where the penitent willattack Geralt.It fights similarly to the average specter, though it willsummon spectersduring the fight.

Mikkjal will run for the lighthouse andwill take some time to light it.You will be unable toharm the Penitentuntil Mikkjal lights the beacon.

Geralt willsay when the lighthouse is lit,signaling when you may properly damage the penitent. It should be an easy fight from here on out. With the penitent dead,loot the trophyfrom its body.

If you hadread the letters,you will have to decide if Mikkjal shouldcontinue working at thelighthouseor if he should seek employment elsewhere.

With the trophy in hand, you canreturn to Jorundfor your payment. What happens next depends onKing’s Gambit.

Geralt willleave peacefully,with a fuller coin pouch.

King’s Gambit Has Not Been Completed

Kori and Kraki willstart a fight with Geralt and Jorund,leading to the latter’s death. Geralt will be imprisoned, starting the questStranger In A Strange Land.
