Achieving the highest possible rank takes an aggressive strategy, good ammo management, and a willingness to take risks. Keep at it, and you’ll be rewarded with a shiny gold S++ next to your favorite character!

How To Get S+ And S++ Rank

The only factor that the game considers when assigning you a rating at the end of a match in The Mercenaries is your final score. The more points you rack up, the better your rank will be!

While you don’t need to get a full combo (that is, defeat all 150 enemies in a single chain) to get to a million points, it certainly helps!

How To Get More Points In The Mercenaries

You’ll need to do more than just defeat enemies;making use of your character’s Mayhem ability, defeating enemies in rapid succession, and pulling off headshots are all important factors in maximizing your score!

Just killing every enemy will only score you a total of around 250,000 points - that’s only a quarter of what you need for S++. The two biggest factors in making up the difference are in yourcombo bonusandtime remaining.

Combo Bonus

Each time you kill an enemy, you’ll see your current combo appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. At the same time, aten-second timerwill start, represented by a white bar underneath your combo count. Killing another enemy before the timer runs out will increase your combo; if the ten seconds expire, the combo count resets to zero, and you receivebonus points based on how high the combo was.

You don’t get the bonus for your current combo if you die.

The most important part of the Combo Bonus is themultiplier. The higher your combo count goes, the more points the bonus will be worth when it’s cashed out. Combo bonuses are earned at the following milestones:

10

Ten percent

25

Twenty percent

50

Thirty percent

70

Forty percent

100

Fifty percent

While you don’t need a perfect combo to achieve S++, you do need to get a combo ofat least one hundredto have a realistic shot at it.

A kill doesn’t count for your combo untilthe exact moment the enemy dies.Keep this in mind for characters like Hunk and Luis, who have slow melee attacks. On the plus side, enemies killed by other enemies count toward your combo and your score!

Time Bonus

After the final enemy falls, you’ll receive extra points equal toone thousand times the number of seconds remainingon the clock, to the nearest hundredth of a second. This can be a massive bonus, as it’s possible to end a match with several minutes remaining, but it’s about much more than just being fast.

At the start of the match, there are two minutes on the clock. Findinggreen Bonus Orbswill extend this time bythirty, sixty, or ninety seconds. However, you’re able to also earn extra time by fighting with panache.

Headshots, melee kills, red barrels, and even using Flash Grenades to kill Plagas will alladd a few seconds to the timer. These feats add up to a lot of extra time over the course of the match! Basically, killing an enemy in any wayother than just shooting them in the torsoor limbswill increase your time and, by extension, your final score.

Krauser excels at racking up lots of points through time extension. Killing an enemy with a non-finisher knife attack nets a whopping four seconds, and his lightning-fast slashes are perfect for this.

Extra Points

There are other ways to get a higher score as well. Most of these are too small in general to be the difference between S+ and S++, but they can push you higher on the leaderboards! Killing multiple enemies with a single attack will earn you several thousand bonus points, in addition to the combo score - the more enemies, the higher the bonus!

Any time youdeal damage to an enemy in Mayhem Mode, you’ll get extra points. The amount varies based on the weapon that you use. Leon’s shotgun and Hunk’s SMG are both excellent for this purpose.

Lastly,be on the lookout for a chicken on every map.Killing it will cause it to drop a Golden Egg. Not only is this rare item a full heal when used, butcollecting it earns fifty thousand points! You don’t have to have it in your inventory at the end of the match - once you pick it up, the points are yours to keep.
