If you have seenThe Witcher 3gameplay trailer, you may recall a vampire telling Geralt to take a hike in much cruder terms. This rather entertaining vampire is not part of the game’s main storyline and is instead found under Novigrad in a quest that is all too easy to miss.

This guide will show you how to reach his resting place deep within the Novigrad sewers and how to resolve the encounter, if you want to see him for yourself. There are some eccentricities in the quest that make it unusually difficult to end that you may not be aware of.

How To Start A Tome Entombed

This quest is hard to start if you aren’t pointed in the right direction first. You will need tofind the vampire’s sarcophagus in the sewersbefore you may begin.

The easiest way to reach it is toenter the sewers through Tretogor gate.Follow the bridge from the fast travel point andlook for an entrance to the city wallson the other side.

How To Deal With The Vampire Under Novigrad

You will meet Professor Vairmont Jonne, from the Faculty of Applied Archeology (tomb raiding, probably), standing over a sealed sarcophagus. He tells Geralt that there isan elven manuscriptwithin and asks the witcher to help him open it.

The two find a vampire sleeping within. After a short, direct exchange, the professor decides that the best course of action is towake the vampire up again. You can agree or point out that it is a terrible idea and walk away.

This questwill not end if you walk away. You mustassist the professoror live with the quest remaining in your quest log for the rest of your playthrough.

The vampirewill not be amusedon his second awakening and willtransform into a katakanbefore attacking. You will have to kill him to both remain alive and complete the quest.

Geralt and a professor look at a finely-dressed man laying inside a large, stone sarcophagus.

The katakan is a vampire thatcan turn invisibleand strike swiftly in hit-and-run attacks. You can counter these assaults byforcing it out of invisibilitythroughfire-based bombs and signsor by employing theMoon Dust bomb.

It is also weak toVampire Oiland vulnerable to the effects ofBlack Blood.
